El 14 de agosto, el equipo de debate de Wal-Mart derrotó al equipo de Siemens y ganó así la final del Great Corporate Debate, la que se llevó a cabo en las oficinas del diario El Mercurio.
Wal-Mart presentó argumentos en contra de la postura “Se debiera ofrecer amnistía a los dictadores que dejan el poder voluntariamente”.
En las semifinales, Siemens derrotó a DHL mediante la postura en favor del tema “No se debiera vender alcohol en Chile entre las 2 a.m. y las 10 a.m.”, mientras que Wal-Mart superó a Banco Santander argumentando en contra de la postura “El royalty proveniente de los recursos naturales debiera ser eliminado de Chile”.
El jurado estuvo compuesto por Drina Rendic, Gonzalo Biggs, James Channing, Felipe Ibarra, Peter Kennedy, Robin Kinsman, Álvaro Fischer, Gabrielle Guimond, Russell Backer y el moderador, Michael Combes.
On August 14, the debate team from Wal-Mart beat Siemens in a closely fought final of the 2012 Great Corporate Debate, which was held in the Sala de Lectores at El Mercurio.
Wal-Mart argued against the moot “Amnesty should be offered to dictators that abdicate voluntarily.” Around 50 AmCham members and their guests attended the final. The Great Corporate Debate is an annual contest designed for participants to practice their English and public speaking skills.
In the semi-finals, Siemens beat DHL arguing against the motion “Alcohol should not be sold in Chile between 2:00am and 10:00am”, while Wal-Mart overcame Banco Santander arguing against the moot: “The royalty on natural resources in Chile should be eliminated.”
The panel of judges was comprised of Drina Rendic, Gonzalo Biggs, James Channing, Felipe Ibarra, Peter Kennedy, Robin Kinsman, Álvaro Fischer, Gabrielle Guimond, Randal Becker and the moderator, Michael Combes.
