Durante la visita a Chile del senador demócrata por el estado de Iowa, Tom Harkin, quien encabezó una delegación de representantes del congreso estadounidense, AmCham recibió al grupo con un almuerzo en la Viña Veramonte. El director de AmCham, Michael Grasty, ofició de anfitrión y en la oportunidad destacó la actual relación de colaboración entre Chile y Estados Unidos. Además, agradeció la confianza depositada en AmCham como medio de información para conocer la realidad chilena.

La delegación estaba conformada, además del senador Harkin, por los senadores María Cantwell, demócrata por el estado de Washington; y Bernard Sanders, independiente por Vermont; y los representantes demócratas por California, George Miller y Jared Hoffman; y Rush Holt, demócrata por New Jersey.

El senador Tom Harkin señaló que “el propósito de nuestro viaje es establecer mejores relaciones con Chile, visitar a su nueva presidenta y hacerle saber que queremos afianzar relaciones en muchas áreas. Creemos que hay muchas áreas, como el intercambio, en las que podemos
trabajar por un mejor desarrollo de la economía, y Chile es un buen ejemplo de cómo se puede tener una democracia sólida y una economía robusta al mismo tiempo”.

During a visit to Chile by a delegation of US Congressional representatives, headed by Democratic Senator for the state of Iowa, Tom Harkin, the group was invited by AmCham to a lunch at Viña Veramonte. AmCham Director Michael Grasty, acting as host, highlighted the collaborative relationship between Chile and the United States. He also thanked participants for the confidence shown in AmCham as a reliable source of information in understanding the current reality in Chile.

As well as Senator Harkin, the delegation was made up of Senators Maria Cantwell, Democrat for the state of Washington and Bernard Sanders, Independent for Vermont; Democratic Congressmen for California, George Miller and Jared Hoffman; and Rush Holt, Democratic Congressman for New Jersey.

Senator Tom Harkin noted, “the reason behind our trip is to establish improved relations with Chile, visit the new President and let her know that we wish to improve relations on a number

of different issues. We believe there are many areas, such as trade, in which we can work towards developing the economy. Chile is a good example of how it is possible to have both a strong democracy and robust economy at the same time”.
