Este importante hito en nuestra historia es un espacio para reflejar el éxito que ha tenido la relación entre Estados Unidos y Chile. Es un tiempo para celebrar el hecho de que Estados Unidos sigue siendo el principal socio comercial y un importante inversionista en Chile. Una de cada 24 empresas en Chile tiene una relación comercial con Estados Unidos y esto redunda en que miles de productos transitan libremente entre ambos países, lo que genera empleos para nuestros pueblos, opciones para nuestros consumidores y oportunidades para nuestras empresas. Y esto, a su vez, implica crecimiento y desarrollo para los dos países.
Este el momento para recordar con orgullo la buena batalla que dimos de nuestra parte, durante más de una década, para conseguir que el Tratado de Libre Comercio entre Chile y Estados Unidos se convirtiera en una realidad y para contribuir al incremento de más de un 180% que ha tenido el intercambio comercial desde que el acuerdo entró en vigencia. Este, también es el tiempo de reafirmar nuestros actuales esfuerzos por garantizar que estos buenos resultados continúen y se fortalezcan.
Asimismo queremos comenzar este año tan importante en nuestra historia agradeciendo a nuestros miembros por su tiempo, sus ideas y por su respaldo financiero a
AmCham y su misión. Los más de 700 miembros con los que cuenta la AmCham representan la piedra angular de la organización, la razón por la que somos fuertes.
Para conseguir estos resultados, necesitamos además el compromiso de nuestros socios: el Gobierno de Chile, el Gobierno de Estados Unidos, la Asociación Americana de Cámaras de Comercio en América Latina, la Cámara de Comercio de Estados Unidos, SOFOFA y muchos más. Trabajando juntos como un equipo, uniendo esfuerzos detrás de metas comunes y generando resultados en una forma beneficiosa para todos, esto es lo que hemos logrado juntos: el compromiso por el que estamos agradecidos y el marco en que seguiremos trabajando para mantener y fortalecer nuestros esfuerzos en el futuro.
Si bien se ha logrado mucho, aún queda mucho por hacer. Necesitamos más inversión y más comercio, especialmente para las pequeñas y medianas empresas, un área a la que la AmCham asigna particular importancia y en la que provee valiosa asistencia. Necesitamos entregar información actualizada y generar nuevas ideas. Necesitamos fortalecer y ampliar nuestras alianzas para producir muchos más y mejores resultados. Necesitamos esforzarnos por mejorar el compromiso de nuestras empresas con la comunidad local. Necesitamos ayudar a promover la consolidación de los derechos de propiedad intelectual y desarrollar medios para mejorar la competitividad y la transparencia.
En AmCham, reiteramos nuestro compromiso con estas importantes metas con el mayor de los entusiasmos durante el nonagésimo aniversario de la Cámara. Esperamos seguir trabajando para hacer que lo que alguna vez fue un sueño sea una oportunidad aún mayor para nuestras empresas, nuestros pueblos y nuestros países.
This year is the year in which
AmCham celebrates its ninetieth birthday and in which - in other words - we celebrate ninety years of commitment to
promoting trade and investment between the United States and Chile.
This important milestone in our history is a time to reflect on the success of the relationship between the United States and Chile. It is a time to celebrate the fact that the U.S. continues to be Chile’s leading trading partner and an important investor. One in every 24 companies in Chile has a commercial relationship with the United States and this results in thousands of products moving freely between our two countries, generating jobs for our people, choice for our consumers and opportunities for our businesses. And this, in turn, means growth and development for both countries.
It is time to recall with pride the good fight we fought for more than a decade to do our part to ensure that the Chile-U.S. Free Trade Agreement became a reality and to contribute to the more than 180% increase in trade since the agreement came into effect. It is a time too to reaffirm our ongoing efforts to ensuring that these good results continue and that they are strengthened.
We also want to begin this very important year in our history by thanking our members for their time, for their ideas and for their financial support of AmCham and its mission. AmCham’s more than 700 members represent the cornerstone of the organization - the reason we are strong.
To produce results, we also need commitment from our partners - the Government of Chile, the Government of the United States, the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, SOFOFA and so many others. Working together as a team, unifying efforts behind common goals and producing results in a manner which is beneficial for all, this is what we, together, have achieved - the commitment for which we are thankful and the framework which we will continue to work to maintain and to strengthen our efforts into the future.
While much has been accomplished, there is much yet to do. We need more investment and more trade, especially for small and medium-sized businesses, an area to which AmCham attaches particular importance and in which it provides valuable assistance. We need to provide up-to-date information and to generate new ideas. We need to strengthen and broaden our alliances to produce ever more and better results. We need to strive to enhance the commitment of our businesses to the local community. We need to help promote the strengthening of intellectual property rights and to develop means to enhance competitiveness and transparency.
We at AmCham reaffirm our commitment to these important goals with the greatest enthusiasm during this ninetieth anniversary year. We look forward to working to make what was once a dream an ever greater opportunity for our businesses, for our people and for our countries.
