AACCLA Mid-Year Meeting, Business Future of the Americas Conference

The Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA) held its mid-year meeting from June 2 through June 6 in Rio de Janeiro. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez attended the event as keynote speaker at the Business Future of the Americas Conference and held a private meeting with AACCLA leaders and AmCham presidents from around the region. The meeting proved an excellent opportunity to advance AACCLA’s agenda on trade - where agreements are in process between the U.S. and Peru, Colombia and Panama - and on trade facilitation, intellectual property and energy security in the region.

AACCLA also submitted the first of several reports outlining the contribution of U.S. business to the region, a project being completed in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Commerce. Kathleen Barclay, AACCLA chair and AmCham Chile director, gave the closing remarks and was followed by Brazil’s Vice-President
