El ministro de Educación, Joaquín Lavín, se reunió en diciembre con el ex presidente de AmCham Ricardo García y el embajador de Estados Unidos en Chile, Alejandro Wolff, para entregar su respaldo a la iniciativa Bicentennial Library organizada por AmCham y el Instituto Chileno Norteamericano de Cultura.

El proyecto de biblioteca, auspiciado por la Embajada de Estados Unidos, donó una selección de 100 libros de la literatura inglesa a 100 bibliotecas a los largo de Chile. El objetivo del proyecto era conmemorar el Bicentenario de Chile el año pasado y contribuir a la meta de mejorar el dominio del inglés de los chilenos. Chile es un país altamente globalizado, pero según se estima solo un 3% de la población habla inglés de manera fluida.

Education Minister Joaquín Lavín met with former AmCham president Ricardo García and U.S. Ambassador Alejandro Wolff in December to offer his support for the Bicentennial Library organized by AmCham and the Chilean-North American Cultural Institute.

The Library project, sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, has donated 100 books selected from English-language literature to 100 libraries throughout Chile. The aim of the project was to mark Chile’s Bicentennial last year and help towards the goal of improving Chileans’ English abilities. Chile is a highly globalized country but only an estimated 3% of the population speaks English fluently.
