En alianza con Entel, Olidata y la Universidad Católica, Microsoft lanzó el proyecto Chile Conect@ Chile para instalar centros móviles de telecomunicaciones en las zonas del sur de Chile más afectadas por el terremoto. El proyecto, que cuenta con el respaldo del Gobierno y la Asociación Chilena de Empresas de Tecnología de la Información (ACTI), incluye 50 unidades móviles equipadas con computadores que ofrecen acceso gratuito a Internet además de cursos de alfabetización digital.

“Creemos que una de las necesidades primordiales es que puedan conectarse. A través de este proyecto estamos poniendo a disposición nuestras tecnologías para ayudar a la conectividad de la zona y, principalmente, a todos los que han tenido problemas para comunicarse con sus seres queridos”, señaló el gerente general de Microsoft Chile, Luiz Marcelo Moncau.

“Estas salas cumplen objetivos muy específicos, ya que no sólo están orientadas a la alfabetización digital, sino también a ser centros de encuentro comunitario, porque una de las tareas más importantes en la reconstrucción del país luego del terremoto, es restaurar al máximo todas las redes comunitarias y sociales”, sostuvo Rodrigo Pérez Mackenna, intendente de VI Región de Chile.

In partnership with Entel, Olidata and the Catholic University, Microsoft has launched the project Chile Conect@ Chile to install mobile telecommunications centers in parts of southern Chile most affected by the earthquake. The project, supported by the government and the national information technology association (ACTI), includes 50 mobile units equipped with computers offering free Internet access as well as computer literacy courses.

“We believe the need to connect is a basic need. With this project we are offering our technology to help connect those who have had trouble reaching their loved ones,” said Microsoft Chile CEO Luiz Marcelo Moncau.

“These centers are not just designed as places to teach computer skills but also as community meeting places because one of the most important tasks in the reconstruction is restoring community and social networks,” said Rodrigo Pérez Mackenna, the governor of Chile’s Region VI.
