Think “hybrid” or “electric car” today, and speed probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. Regardless, interest in and ownership of alternative-fuel vehicles has never been higher. By August 2006 there were 9 million alternative-fuel autos tooling about, that’s up from 8.3 million in 2005 and 3 million in 2000, according to auto research firm R.L. Polk & Co. MSNBC reports.
