Roberto Matus fue designado nuevo gerente general de AmCham Chile a partir del 1 de octubre. El diplomático chileno tiene más de 20 años de experiencia en el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores.

Desde septiembre del 2009, fue ministro consejero en la Embajada de Chile en Washington, D.C. En dicha función participó activamente en las negociaciones del acuerdo Chile-Massachusetts, las distintas visitas presidenciales y estuvo a cargo de coordinar la gestión de la Embajada. Asimismo entre el 2006 y el 2009, fue jefe de gabinete del entonces ministro de Relaciones Exteriores Alejandro Foxley. Previamente, había encabezado el Departamento de Comercio del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, habiendo desempeñado un papel fundamental en la suscripción del tratado de libre comercio entre Chile y Estados Unidos en el 2003.

“El amplio conocimiento y vasta experiencia de Matus en los temas económicos, comerciales y políticos de la relación Chile-Estados Unidos representan un valioso activo para enfrentar la nueva etapa de desarrollo y crecimiento que AmCham Chile enfrentará en los próximos años”, comentó la presidenta de AmCham, Kathleen Barclay.

Roberto Matus has been appointed as the new General Manager of AmCham Chile as of October 1. Matus is a Chilean diplomat with over 20 years of experience in the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Since September 2009, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chilean Embassy in Washington, DC. In this position, he participated actively in the negotiations of the Chile-Massachusetts agreement, various presidential visits and was in charge of managing the Embassy. Between 2006 and 2009, he served as Chief of Cabinet of then-Foreign Minister Alejandro Foxley. From 2001 to 2006, he was head of the Economic and Trade Office of the Chilean Embassy in the US. In this position he worked on the negotiations towards a free trade agreement between the two countries, and led the strategy for approval of the agreement by the US Congress.

“Matus’ extensive knowledge and vast experience in economic, commercial and political matters of the Chile-US relationship is a valuable asset in the new era of development and growth that AmCham Chile will face in the coming years,” said AmCham President Kathleen Barclay.
