Con el fin de abrir un espacio para la reflexi\u00f3n en torno al Acuerdo Transpac\u00edfico de Libre Comercio (TPP, en su sigla en ingl\u00e9s) en el que participan Chile, Estados Unidos y diez econom\u00edas de la regi\u00f3n Asia-Pac\u00edfico, la C\u00e1mara Chilena Norteamericana de Comercio, AmCham Chile, realiz\u00f3 el seminario internacional Chile – Estados Unidos: Oportunidades Comerciales y Desaf\u00edos en un Mercado Abierto.<\/p>\n

En el marco del evento, la presidenta de AmCham Chile, Kathleen Barclay, se\u00f1al\u00f3 que el acuerdo \u201ces un hito para la historia del comercio internacional y una oportunidad que no se puede dejar pasar. \u00c9ste es, sin duda, el siguiente paso en el exitoso proceso de integraci\u00f3n de Chile con el mundo. Ello, porque se generar\u00e1n m\u00faltiples oportunidades de negocios, al ser parte de un bloque comercial que representa el 40% del PIB global y el 26% del comercio mundial\u201d.<\/p>\n

El Embajador de los Estados Unidos en Chile, Michael Hammer, en tanto, recalc\u00f3 que el comercio es una de las formas \u201cm\u00e1s tangibles de demostrar la fortaleza de las relaciones entre los pa\u00edses\u2026 Este pacto comercial est\u00e1 marcando la pauta de c\u00f3mo se hace el libre comercio en el siglo XXI\u201d, sostuvo.<\/p>\n

El seminario, auspiciado por American Express, FedEx Express y Travel Security, cont\u00f3 con dos paneles de discusi\u00f3n: Desaf\u00edos y Nuevas Oportunidades Comerciales para impulsar el Crecimiento Econ\u00f3mico de Chile, en el que participaron destacadas figuras nacionales, como el director general de la Direcon, Andr\u00e9s Rebolledo; el director del Programa para las Am\u00e9ricas del Centro de Estudios Internacionales Estrat\u00e9gicos, Carl Meacham; y el senador Ricardo Lagos Weber.<\/p>\n

El segundo panel, Invirtiendo en Competitividad y Promoviendo la Inversi\u00f3n, lo integraron el vicepresidente ejecutivo del Comit\u00e9 de Inversiones Extranjeras, Vicente Mira; la jefa Divisi\u00f3n Empresas de Menor Tama\u00f1o del Ministerio de Econom\u00eda, Fomento y Turismo, Alejandra Dagnino;<\/p>\n

y la directora comercial de Google Chile, Mariana Caperochipe. Ambos paneles fueron moderados por Nicol\u00e1s Paut, editor de econom\u00eda de CNN Chile, media partner del encuentro.<\/p>\n

Los beneficios <\/strong><\/p>\n

El director general de la Direcon, Andr\u00e9s Rebolledo, asegur\u00f3 que las condiciones previas al acuerdo no interfirieron en los beneficios obtenidos por el pa\u00eds. Esto, pese a las dudas que despert\u00f3 en un principio dicha posibilidad, debido a que Chile contaba de manera previa con acuerdos bilaterales con los otros pa\u00edses que considera el tratado.<\/p>\n

\u201cSi bien Chile tiene acuerdos con los 11 pa\u00edses que integran el TPP, hab\u00edan m\u00e1s de 1.000 productos que estaban fuera de los acuerdos bilaterales previos con, por ejemplo, Jap\u00f3n y Canad\u00e1, los que hoy est\u00e1n incorporados. All\u00ed, hay un beneficio para los sectores agr\u00edcolas, agroindustriales, pecuarios, forestales e incluso pesqueros en algunos rubros espec\u00edficos\u201d, afirm\u00f3.<\/p>\n

El siguiente paso es la ratificaci\u00f3n en el Parlamento de los pa\u00edses adscritos. Para ello, tendr\u00e1n un plazo de dos a\u00f1os a contar del 4 de febrero de 2016, fecha en que el TPP se firmar\u00e1 oficialmente en Nueva Zelanda.[:en]The Chilean American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Chile) and the General Directorate of International Economic Relations (DIRECON) have held a seminar on the challenges facing the economic relationship between Chile and the United States, in the context of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement (TPP)<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

With the aim of providing an opportunity for relevant parties to reflect on the TPP, which has been signed by Chile, the United States, and ten other Asia-Pacific economies, AmCham Chile has staged a seminar entitled, Chile \u2013 United States: Trade Opportunities and Challenges in an Open Market.<\/p>\n

During the event, AmCham Chile president, Kathleen Barclay, announced that the agreement, \u201cis a historic landmark of international trade and an opportunity that can\u2019t be ignored. This is, without a doubt, the next step in the successful process of integrating Chile with the world, since being part of a trade block that represents 40% of global GDP and 26% of world trade will generate multiple business opportunities\u201d.<\/p>\n

The U.S. ambassador to Chile, Michael Hammer, stressed that trade is one of the, \u201cmost tangibles ways of demonstrating the strength of relations between the countries\u2026 This trade agreement is setting the standard for how to conduct free trade in the 21st<\/sup> century\u201d.<\/p>\n

The seminar, sponsored by American Express, FedEx Express and Travel Security, consisted of two discussion panels. The first was entitled: Challenges and New Trade Opportunities for Fostering Economic Growth in Chile. Participants included the director general of DIRECON, Andr\u00e9s Rebolledo; director of the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Carl Meacham; and Chilean senator, Ricardo Lagos Weber.<\/p>\n

The second panel, entitled, Investing in Competitiveness and Promoting Investment, included the participation of the executive vice president of the Chilean Foreign Investment Committee (CIEChile), Vicente Mira; the head of the Small Enterprise Division of the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism, Alejandra Dagnino; and the commercial director of Google Chile, Mariana Caperochipe. Both panels were moderated by Nicol\u00e1s Paut, economic editor of CNN Chile, the event\u2019s media partner.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The benefits<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The director general of DIRECON, Andr\u00e9s Rebolledo, assured the audience that the conditions of the TPP would not interfere with pre-existing benefits already secured by Chile. This is despite initial concerns that these conditions may indeed be affected, since Chile had already signed bilateral agreements with all countries signatory to the TPP.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile Chile has agreements with the 11 other countries that make up the TPP\u201d, he said, \u201cmore than 1,000 products were excluded from previous bilateral treaties, for example, some from Japan and China, which are now included. So, this will ensure benefits for the agriculture, agro-industrial, livestock, forestry and even fishing sectors in certain specific areas\u201d.<\/p>\n

The next step is the ratification of the TPP in the signatory countries\u2019 respective legislative branches. The signing of the agreement into law is subject to a time period of two years, beginning on 4 February 2016.
