La d\u00e9cimo tercera versi\u00f3n del Premio Buen Ciudadano Empresarial AmCham que entrega la C\u00e1mara Chileno Norteamericana de Comercio reconoci\u00f3 este a\u00f1o a la empresa GNL Quintero por su programa Quintero Vive, una plataforma de proyectos de intervenci\u00f3n urbana, cuyo objetivo es renovar la infraestructura de la ciudad a partir de una visi\u00f3n sustentable.<\/p>\n

\u201cDurante dos a\u00f1os un grupo de arquitectos especializados recorrieron la zona, revisaron su historia y vieron cu\u00e1les eran los lugares que se pod\u00edan aprovechar para hacer una recuperaci\u00f3n urbana. Como resultado de este an\u00e1lisis, se identificaron m\u00e1s de 20 proyectos en los que con diversas intervenciones se pod\u00edan mejorar los espacios y que fueran en beneficio de la poblaci\u00f3n\u201d, explic\u00f3 el gerente general de la compa\u00f1\u00eda, Antonio Bacigalupo.<\/p>\n

Algunos de estos planes est\u00e1n siendo desarrollados direc\u00adtamente por la empresa. Uno de ellos es el paseo costero de dos kil\u00f3metros que une Loncura con Quintero, el cual tuvo un costo de US$ 6,5 millones y que se inaugur\u00f3 el 24 de noviembre de este a\u00f1o. Comprende, entre otras cosas, un skate park<\/em>, juegos para ni\u00f1os, equipos de gimnasia y miradores.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>Arauco, Samsung y BASF tambi\u00e9n fueron distinguidos <\/strong><\/p>\n

En el evento tambi\u00e9n se premi\u00f3 con la menci\u00f3n Asociatividad a Arauco por el programa Plan de Vivienda para Trabajadores: Un Proyecto de Valor Compartido; a Samsung en la categor\u00eda Innovaci\u00f3n por Samsung Smart School, y en Medio Ambiente a BASF por Equilibrio Sustentable para Juan Fern\u00e1ndez.<\/p>\n

\u201cEn estos cinco a\u00f1os que lleva funcionando el proyecto de Arauco, la firma ha construido 1.200 casas con madera que antes destinaba a exportaci\u00f3n -por un valor aproximado de 1.000 UF cada una- en San Jos\u00e9 de la Mariquina, en Curanilahue y en Constituci\u00f3n, localidades de la Regi\u00f3n del Biob\u00edo en donde la compa\u00f1\u00eda opera\u201d, destac\u00f3 el gerente de Asuntos P\u00fablicos y Responsabilidad Corporativa de Arauco, Iv\u00e1n Chamorro.<\/p>\n

Por su parte, el programa Samsung Smart School en la actualidad abarca 12 colegios del pa\u00eds con salas equipadas con 40 o 50 tablets, pantalla interactiva, software y hardware y acompa\u00f1amiento para los profesores en el uso de la tecnolog\u00eda, explic\u00f3 el gerente de Ciudadan\u00eda y Comunicaciones Corporativas de Samsung Electronics, Germ\u00e1n S\u00e1enz.<\/p>\n

En tanto, Equilibrio Sustentable para Juan Fern\u00e1ndez es un programa dirigido a proteger el picaflor del archipi\u00e9lago Juan Fern\u00e1ndez, especie \u00fanica en el mundo y en peligro de extinci\u00f3n. Lo anterior, por medio de la generaci\u00f3n de capacidades t\u00e9cnicas locales para la implementaci\u00f3n de este proyecto.<\/p>\n

En el marco de la ceremonia, la presidenta de AmCham Chile, Kathleen Barclay, enfatiz\u00f3 que \u201cpara desarrollar un programa de car\u00e1cter social exitoso es esencial que la relaci\u00f3n entre empresa y comunidad no s\u00f3lo est\u00e9 acotada a las \u00e1reas o equipos de relaciones comunitarias o de RSE, sino que todos los estamentos de las organizaciones deben estar comprometidos, desde la gerencia general hasta sus bases\u201d.<\/p>\n

La Subsecretaria de Econom\u00eda, Katia Trusich, agreg\u00f3 que este tipo de premios \u201cvisibiliza el trabajo con las comunidades y la sostenibilidad que, afortunadamente, es una tem\u00e1tica cada vez m\u00e1s presente en la agenda. Para que las empresas prosperen en el largo plazo, las comunidades tambi\u00e9n deben prosperar. El desarrollo sostenible debe convocarnos a todos, debemos afrontarlo en alianza p\u00fablico privada\u201d.<\/p>\n

Este a\u00f1o postularon 34 programas, los cuales fueron eva\u00adluados por SustentaRSE y un jurado integrado por Kathleen Barclay y Katia Trusich, adem\u00e1s del presidente ejecutivo de Am\u00e9rica Solidaria, Benito Baranda; el gerente general de The Walt Disney Company, Javier Irarr\u00e1zaval; el gerente general de Acci\u00f3n RSE, Ignacio Larraechea; el ministro consejero de la Embajada de Estados Unidos, Dale Eppler, y el gerente general de Burson-Marsteller, Le\u00f3n Guzm\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Finalmente, la ceremonia de premiaci\u00f3n de este a\u00f1o inclu\u00ady\u00f3 la realizaci\u00f3n del Seminario Relacionamiento Comunitario: Casos de \u00c9xito y Aprendizajes, instancia en la que autoridades y representantes de comunidades dieron a conocer su experien\u00adcia en torno a los avances y desaf\u00edos del trabajo comunitario. Dicha actividad incluy\u00f3 la presentaci\u00f3n Gobierno, Empresas y Sociedad Civil, Claves para un C\u00edrculo Virtuoso a cargo del director de World Wildlife Fund Chile, Ricardo Bosshard. Pos\u00adteriormente, se realizaron los paneles de conversaci\u00f3n Licencia Social, Desarrollo y \u00c9tica: El Caso de Quintero, de GNL Quintero, y el panel Construyendo una Relaci\u00f3n de Largo Plazo: Divisi\u00f3n Gabriela Mistral y Comunidad de Santiago de R\u00edo Grande, liderado por Codelco.[:en]This distinction, awarded by the Chilean American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Chile) seeks to recognize corporate social responsibility programs that directly benefit local communities<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The 13th version of the AmCham Good Corporate Citizenship Award has selected GNL Quintero as the main winner for 2015, in recognition of the company\u2019s Quintero Vive (Quintero Lives) program. The aim of this program is to renovate the city of Quintero\u2019s urban infrastructure, based on a long-term vision of sustainability.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor a period of two years\u201d, said Antonio Bacigalupo, general manager of GNL Quintero, \u201ca group of specialized architects toured the local area, reviewing its history and observing exactly which places would benefit most from urban regeneration. As a result of this evaluation, more than 20 projects were identified in which different schemes could be incorporated for improving public spaces and generally benefitting the local population\u201d.<\/p>\n

A certain number of these plans are being directly undertaken by the company. One of these, for example, is the two-kilometre-long coastal walkway that joins the town of Loncura with Quintero. It cost US$6.5 million and was inaugurated on 24 November 2015. Among other features, the walkway includes a skate park, children\u2019s games, exercise equipment and lookout points.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Arauco, Samsung and BASF also recognized<\/strong><\/p>\n

The award ceremony also honored other companies with the Special Mention prizes: Arauco won the Special Mention in Community Development prize, for its program Plan de Vivienda para Trabajadores: Un Proyecto de Valor Compartido (Housing for Workers Plan: A Shared Valued Project); Samsung won the Special Mention in Innovation for its Samsung Smart School; and BASF won the Special Mention in Environment for its Equilibrio Sustentable para Juan Fern\u00e1ndez (Sustainable Balance for Juan Fern\u00e1ndez) project.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the five years in which Arauco\u2019s project has been in place\u201d, said Iv\u00e1n Chamorro, public affairs and corporate responsibility manager of Arauco, \u201cthe company has built 1,200 houses out of wood that was previously earmarked for export, with an approximate value of 1,000 UF each, in San Jos\u00e9 de la Mariquina, Curanilahue and Constitucion, all located in the BioBio Region, where the company operates\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Samsung Smart School currently covers 12 schools across the country. As Germ\u00e1n Saenz, citizenry and corporate communications manager at Samsung Electronics, explained, the project involves equipping classrooms with 40 to 50 tablets, interactive screens, software and additional hardware to assist teachers in their use of technology.<\/p>\n

The Equilibrio Sustentable para Juan Fern\u00e1ndez program aims to protect the Juan Fern\u00e1ndez archipelago humming bird, which is a unique and endangered species. The program helps to conduct technical-based capacity building for local residents. In turn, they can then oversee the project.<\/p>\n

During the ceremony, the president of AmCham Chile, Kathleen Barclay, stressed that, \u201cin order to devise a successful social program, it is crucial that the relationship between company and community is not only linked to the areas or teams working in community relations or CSR, but also that all levels of the organizations are committed, from senior management down\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Undersecretary of Economy, Katia Trusich, added that this type of award, \u201cwidens recognition of work with communities and sustainability which, fortunately, is becoming an increasingly visible issue on the agenda\u201d. She continued by stating, \u201cFor businesses to prosper in the long term, communities also have to prosper. Sustainable development is something we should all think about, and it must be confronted through (the formation of) public-private partnerships\u201d.<\/p>\n

A total of 34 programs applied to this year\u2019s awards. The projects were evaluated by SustentaRSE and the judging panel consisting of Kathleen Barclay and Katia Trusich, as well as Benito Baranda, executive president of Am\u00e9rica Solidaria; Javier Irarr\u00e1zaval, general manager of The Walt Disney Company Chile; Ignacio Larraechea, general manager of Acci\u00f3n RSE; Dale Eppler, deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy; and Le\u00f3n Guzm\u00e1n, general manager of Burson-Marsteller.<\/p>\n

Finally, this year\u2019s award ceremony included a number of additional events. For example, a seminar was held, entitled, Community Relations: Case Studies and Lessons Learned. During the seminar, authorities and community representatives discussed their experience of progress and challenges relating to community work. There was also a presentation given by the director of the World Wildlife Fund Chile, Ricardo Bosshard, entitled, Government, Business and Civil Society: Keys to a Virtuous Circle. Furthermore, discussion panels were held on the topics of Social Licence, Development and Ethics: The Case of Quintero, GNL Quintero; and another on Constructing a Long-Term Relationship: Gabriela Mistral Division and Community of Santiago of R\u00edo Grande, led by the Chilean copper corporation, Codelco.[:]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
