El Arzobispo de Santiago, junto al decano de la Facultad de Ciencias Econ\u00f3micas y Administrativas de la Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de Chile, Jos\u00e9 Miguel S\u00e1nchez, comentaron la enc\u00edclica papal, sus alcances y los nuevos desaf\u00edos empresariales que supone entender la sustentabilidad bajo un concepto m\u00e1s humano.<\/i><\/p>\n
Con el fin de brindar una mirada amplia e integradora, el Comit\u00e9 de Sustentabilidad de la C\u00e1mara Chileno Norteamericana de Comercio, AmCham Chile, organiz\u00f3 un encuentro e invit\u00f3 al Arzobispo de Santiago, cardenal Ricardo Ezzati, a exponer los puntos m\u00e1s importantes de la enc\u00edclica del Papa Francisco Laudato Si\u2019 <\/i>a un grupo de CEO\u00b4s \u00a0y socios de la C\u00e1mara.<\/p>\n
En la instancia, tanto el cardenal Ezzati como la presidenta de AmCham Chile, Kathleen Barclay, destacaron la importancia de dialogar sobre los aspectos fundamentales de la enc\u00edclica, la que toca temas de relevancia mundial como el cuidado del medio ambiente, el calentamiento global y el desarrollo econ\u00f3mico de la mano del correcto aprovechamiento de los recursos naturales.<\/p>\n
Barclay se\u00f1al\u00f3 que, m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de las religiones, este di\u00e1logo podr\u00eda ayudar a los empresarios a pensar el tema ambiental desde otro punto de vista. Y junto con ello, asumir sus desaf\u00edos como \u201crepresentantes de los principales sectores industriales, cuyas actividades tienen un directo impacto en la preservaci\u00f3n del medio ambiente y en la relaci\u00f3n con las comunidades\u201d, sostuvo.<\/p>\n
El cardenal Ezzati en su presentaci\u00f3n expres\u00f3 que el documento habla de una ecolog\u00eda integral y ofrece l\u00edneas de acci\u00f3n, de espiritualidad y educaci\u00f3n sobre el tema ambiental. \u201cLaudato Si\u2019<\/i> llama a reunir a toda la familia humana en la b\u00fasqueda de un desarrollo sostenible e integral, es una invitaci\u00f3n urgente al nuevo di\u00e1logo de c\u00f3mo estamos construyendo el futuro del planeta que llama a una solidaridad universal\u201d, se\u00f1al\u00f3 el Arzobispo de Santiago.<\/p>\n
Y a ello, a\u00f1adi\u00f3 que \u201cel Papa habla sobre la cultura del descarte, y esa cultura no afecta solamente a lo que no nos sirve y dejamos botado, sino que tambi\u00e9n a los seres humanos excluidos como a los que se convierten en basura\u201d.<\/p>\n
Desde su perspectiva, el decano de la Facultad de Ciencias Econ\u00f3micas y Administrativas de la Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de Chile, Jos\u00e9 Miguel S\u00e1nchez, defini\u00f3 la enc\u00edclica como desafiante y coment\u00f3 que las ideas del Papa Francisco y sus cr\u00edticas a la lentitud en c\u00f3mo se ha avanzado en la protecci\u00f3n del planeta, tienen asidero y son una invitaci\u00f3n a que pa\u00edses como el nuestro no se marginen de lo que ocurre.<\/p>\n
Sobre el desaf\u00edo de avanzar hacia otro tipo de desarrollo, S\u00e1nchez advirti\u00f3 desde el \u00e1rea acad\u00e9mica que \u201cla superaci\u00f3n de la pobreza, la inclusi\u00f3n y el cuidado ambiental son los aspectos m\u00e1s importantes, a mi interpretaci\u00f3n de la enc\u00edclica y en econom\u00eda ya se le ha puesto un nombre: \u00b4desarrollo sustentable\u00b4. \u00c9ste no es un tema ajeno, sino uno que ha preocupado a muchos economistas\u201d.<\/p>\n
Hacia el final de la actividad, el co-presidente del Comit\u00e9 de Sustentabilidad y gerente general de Pesquera Camanchaca, Ricardo Garc\u00eda, coment\u00f3 que \u201cesta ocasi\u00f3n de conversaci\u00f3n con el cardenal nos ha permitido agregar una dimensi\u00f3n humana e integral que nos deja conmovidos. \u00c9sta nos interpela, dej\u00e1ndonos en un estado de reflexi\u00f3n para orientar nuestras labores y tareas futuras\u201d. As\u00ed, el ejecutivo proyect\u00f3 que, tras esta reuni\u00f3n espera ver surgir nuevas iniciativas dentro de la C\u00e1mara.<\/p>\n
Asimismo, el cardenal Ezzati se mostr\u00f3 optimista sobre c\u00f3mo el esfuerzo tras la enc\u00edclica pueda verse reflejado en la labores empresariales y que ella se considere como un empuje. \u201cTanto el Papa en la enc\u00edclica, como el Episcopado Latinoamericano han destacado el rol que la empresa tiene en la vida y en el desarrollo de las personas y la sociedad. Creo que las empresas deben sentirse estimuladas cada vez m\u00e1s a tener una cultura del cuidado y de la solidaridad y que aquello va a ser provechoso tanto para la misma empresa como para todos las dem\u00e1s\u201d, concluy\u00f3.\u00adThe Archbishop of Santiago, together with the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences at the <\/i>Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de Chile, Jos\u00e9 Miguel S\u00e1nchez, have met to discuss the papal encyclical, its wider scope and new business challenges of understanding sustainability in line with a more human concept.<\/i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
With the aim of providing a broader and more integrated outlook, the Sustainability Committee of the Chilean-American Chamber of Commerce, AmCham Chile, recently invited the Archbishop of Santiago, Cardinal Ricardo Ezzati, to speak to the organization. The cardinal met with a group of CEOs and Chamber members to speak about the most significant aspects of Pope Francisco\u2019s recent encyclical letter Laudato Si\u2019<\/i>.<\/p>\n
During the event, both Cardinal Ezzati and the President of AmCham Chile, Kathleen Barclay, highlighted the importance of discussing the key points raised by the encyclical, which addresses a number of significant global issues. These include the environment, global warming and economic development driven by the correct use of natural resources.<\/p>\n
Barclay indicated that, beyond the religious aspect, such dialogue could help businesspersons to reflect on environmental matters from a different point of view. She said that it might also help them confront challenges as, \u201crepresentatives of the main industrial sectors, the activities of which have a direct impact on preserving the environment and community relations\u201d.<\/p>\n
In his presentation, Cardinal Ezzati said that the papal document speaks of an integral ecology while offering lines of action, spirituality and education on environmental issues. \u201cLaudato Si\u2019 <\/i>makes a call for uniting the entire human family in the search for sustainable and comprehensive development, (and that) it is an urgent invitation to new dialogue on how we are building the future of the planet which calls for universal solidarity\u201d, said the Archbishop.<\/p>\n
He added that, \u201cthe Pope speaks about the culture of discarding, and that this culture does not only affect that which we no longer need and throw away, but it also has an impact on excluded human beings that are (viewed as) garbage\u201d.<\/p>\n
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences at the Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de Chile, Jos\u00e9 Miguel S\u00e1nchez, described the encyclical as laying down a challenge. He said that the ideas of Pope Francisco and his criticisms of the slowness of progress made in terms of protecting the planet are with substance, and that they represent an invitation to countries like Chile not to become marginalized from what is taking place.<\/p>\n
Regarding the challenge of progressing towards a new type of development, S\u00e1nchez explained that from the field of academia, \u201covercoming poverty, (the issue of) inclusion and environmental care are the most important aspects, in my interpretation of the encyclical, and in economics they already have a name: \u2018sustainable development\u2019. This is not an alien issue; it is one which concerns many economists\u201d.<\/p>\n
Towards the end of the event, the co-chair of the Sustainability Committee and CEO of Pesquera Camanchaca, Ricardo Garc\u00eda, stated that, \u201cthis opportunity to converse with the cardinal has allowed us to add a human and more fully-rounded dimension and has touched us all. It (the meeting) has spoken to us and has left us in a state of reflection about how to focus our future efforts and work\u201d. Garc\u00eda concluded by expressing his hope that this meeting would lead to new initiatives emerging from within the Chamber.<\/p>\n
Similarly, Cardinal Ezzati was optimistic that efforts after the encyclical might be reflected in business actions and that the papal letter had worked as a kind of push in that direction. He concluded by saying, \u201cBoth the Pope in the encyclical and the Latin American Episcopate have highlighted the role of business in life and in the development of people and society. I believe that businesses should be increasingly motivated to incorporate a culture of care and solidarity, and that this will be as advantageous for the business itself as it is for everyone else\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
