Since March 2000, Kellie Meiman has led the Brazil\/Southern Cone and trade practices of McLarty Associates, a strategic advisory firm led by Thomas \u201cM ack\u201d McLarty, former Chief of Staff to President Clinton.\u00a0 Over the years, Ms. Meiman has helped major multinational companies in this dynamic region to take advantage of opportunities, as well as to troubleshoot obstacles to market access and investment.<\/p>\n
She previously worked at the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) as Director for Brazil and the Southern Cone, where she had primary responsibility for Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.\u00a0 During her tenure at USTR, she led the Joint Committee for Trade and Investment (JCTI), the precursor to the successful US-Chile Free Trade Agreement.<\/p>\n
Prior to USTR, Ms. Meiman served as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State, where her posts included handling crisis management in the State Operations Center.\u00a0 An Economic Officer in the Foreign Service, Ms. Meiman previously had served in Porto Alegre, S\u00e3o Paulo and Recife, Brazil, and in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia.\u00a0 She has lived and studied in Central America.<\/p>\n
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Ms. Meiman is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, where she graduated with honors and received a certificate in Latin American Studies.\u00a0 She is a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Inter-American Dialogue, on the board of the Brasil-American Chamber of Commerce, and the President of the Chilean-American Chamber of Commerce.\u00a0 She is also active in Democratic policy circles.\u00a0 Ms. Meiman speaks Spanish and Portuguese.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
