\n<\/SPAN>The Great Corporate Debate will take place in Santiago, Chile with a \u201cRound Robin\u201d style Qualifying Round, a Semi-Final round, and a Grand Finale.

Rules and Information
\n1.<\/STRONG> Location and Dates:<\/STRONG> The first round will take place at AmCham, the semi-final at AmCham, and the Grand Finale will take place at the <\/SPAN>El Mercurio.<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/SPAN>
2.<\/STRONG> Participating Companies:<\/STRONG> In 2009 we had 5 companies that participated; BHP Billiton, Central de Restaurantes Aramark<\/EM>, Evercrisp Snack Products of Chile S. A.<\/EM>, Seguros Interamericana<\/EM>, Comercial D y S<\/EM>, Celulosa Arauco y Constituci\u00f3n S.A<\/EM>., and All participants received a certificate of participation at the conclusion of the event. <\/SPAN>

\n3. Team:<\/SPAN><\/STRONG>
<\/SPAN>
\n
\n- Teams may consist of a minimum of four participants and a maximum of 8 participants.
<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/LI>
\n- Any employee of the participating company is eligible to participate.
<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/LI>
\n- 8 employees may participant in the training. However, only 4 team members will be able to participate in each debate.
<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/LI>
\n- You must indicate who you have designated as your 4 team members no later than 48 hours prior to each debate.
<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/LI>
\n- You may change which team members participate for each debate.
<\/SPAN><\/LI>
\n- <\/SPAN>Each team should nominate a captain to be the point person for the team.
<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/LI>
\n- Only one native speaker per team is allowed for each debate.<\/SPAN> <\/LI><\/UL><\/DIV>
\n(FYI) We define a native speaker as \u201cA person who has learned a language from an early age and who has a mastery of that language\u201d. If a team is unsure whether one of their members are a native speaker an interview will be conducted by the debate committee who will make the final decision.<\/SPAN><\/P>
\n4.<\/STRONG> Language:<\/STRONG> The competition will be entirely in English. We expect that teams will have varying degrees of English ability. Scoring by the judges will not focus heavily on command of the English language, but instead on ability to express the argument clearly and convincingly.<\/SPAN>
5.<\/STRONG> Judging:<\/STRONG> A panel of three judges will judge each debate during the Round Robin, a panel of five judges will judge the semi-finals and seven will judge the Grand Finale. The verdict of the debate will be determined by adding each judge\u2019s individual score. In the case of the Round Robin round, each judge, aside from their normal scoring, will assign one point to the team which they believed won the debate. The teams with the most points from each group will move on to the semi-final round. Judges shall not discuss with each other before they reach their verdict. The decision of the judges is final. <\/SPAN>

\nTeams will each receive approximately 6 hours of training. Each team will be scheduled time slots for training during the months of April. Each session will combine 2 or more teams in order to facilitate being comfortable speaking English in front of a group. More details coming soon!<\/SPAN>
