Top exports from Chile\u00a0to the United States include copper\u00a0cathodes, fresh grapes and salmon. More than 2,000 Chilean firms\u00a0exported as many different products to\u00a0the United States.<br \/>\nMore than 300 U.S. companies have\u00a0investments in Chile, according to the\u00a0American Chamber of Commerce in\u00a0Chile. Of those, more than 40 use Chile\u00a0as a platform for services in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Chilean affiliates of U.S. direct investors\u00a0are estimated to employ more than\u00a058,500 people and their value-added\u00a0contributed 3.2 percent to Chile\u2019s gross\u00a0domestic product.<\/p>\n<p>Chile is roughly equal in size to\u00a0California and home to 16 million people\u00a0and renowned copper mines. Chile holds\u00a0$15.3 billion in reserves. In 2003, the\u00a0Chilean economy began to recover after\u00a0a 1999 slump, reaching a 3.3 percent\u00a0growth in real gross domestic product\u00a0(GDP). GDP grew by 4.2 percent in\u00a02006.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1990, there has been more than\u00a0$50 billion in direct foreign investment\u00a0in Chile, which has the most stable and\u00a0fastest-growing economy in the region.<br \/>\nThose factors put Chile in the best position\u00a0to promote democracy and political\u00a0freedom. Chile has now signed 56 FTAs\u00a0with various countries around the world.<br \/>\nChile also is California\u2019s 28th largest\u00a0export partner.
