KEY EXPERIENCE:<\/strong>
\nMr Bamford had 12 years experience as a park ranger in New Zealand\u2019s national parks service before 1986. In 1986 he became a partner and co-founder of the private firm, Tourism Resource Consultants that he has jointly managed, successfully, for 20 years.
\nHis early experience in national parks covered the full range of field management and field assessment work including scientific monitoring, park interpretation, backcountry tourism operations and safety services. Later, he held a senior supervisory role in the Department of Lands and Survey Head Office with oversight of all field operations, staff management, recruitment, training and promotion. During this time (six years), he also initiated New Zealand\u2019s international short course for national parks and protected area managers.
\nAs a private consultant Mr Bamford now runs, with his two business partners and staff, a firm called Tourism Resource Consultants, which specialises in tourism, national parks and recreation planning. Mr Bamford\u2019s projects
\nusually have very strong links with protected area management, business and visitor use.
\nMr Bamford has worked extensively throughout Asia, the Pacific, and New
\nZealand over the last 20 years. In Samoa, Mr Bamford has worked with the
\nSamoan tourism industry as a tourism consultant since 1991. During 1992 and 1993, he worked in Sarawak (Malaysia) as Project Manager and was the National Park Specialist for the second Sarawak Tourism Masterplan, (duration nine months). Mr Bamford was the Tourism Resource Analyst for the Sabah Tourism Masterplan (1995). He was a team member and Project Manager for the Visitor Management Strategy for Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park (Ayers Rock) in Australia. He has been project manager\/director for several large NZAID projects in the Pacific including the NZAID Samoa Tourism Programme 1994\u20132003, the NZAID Fiji Ecotourism Programme 1997\u20132003 and the NZAID Tonga Nature Tourism Programme 1997\u20132004. He has been involved in a wide range of tourism projects in China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos PDR, Myanmar, New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific.
\nMr Bamford has had thirty years developing and managing teams, both small and large. These include professional, inter-disciplinary planning teams such as the NZAID (NZODA) Fiji Ecotourism, Tonga, Samoa, Lake Khanas (China), Mongolia and Aid Programmes.
\nMr Bamford has helped establish several offices offshore, examples include in Sarawak and in Sabah, Malaysia. Mr Bamford has extensive experience in the assessment, development and management of mountain, river and marine tourism products.
\nMr Bamford has initiated and managed major adventure events in the backcountry of New Zealand and Asia. These include the New Zealand 1994
\nRaid Gauloises, The Grand Traverse, the New Zealand Mountains to Sea 1987- 1994, the Malaysian Raid Gauloises and the New Zealand Big Coast 1990-1996. He has an extensive understanding of all aspects of adventure\/multi-sports event management.
\nMr Bamford has over 15 years of active involvement in tourism business
\ndevelopment and training in the Pacific and Asia.
\nIn 2004 and 2005 Mr Bamford was the livelihoods specialist on the ADB\u2019s Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Strategy 2006-2015. Mr Bamford provided the propoor tourism input into this important project. In doing so he reviewed the six countries\u2019 propoor tourism policies, plans and initiatives and, after extensive consultation, prepared a sector report for the final ADB GMS Tourism Strategy
\n2006-2015. The study had a major focus on poverty reduction.
\nMr Bamford has, in 2005-2006, been involved in poverty alleviation work in
\nPapua New Guinea that focussed initially on providing training for Papua New Guinea tourism operators. These included running multi-day tourism business training courses in Madang (2005) and Rabaul (2006). He is now helping prepare a major strategy for the IFC to assist a wide range of rural communities develop livelihood opportunities in and around the well known Kokoda Trail.
\nIn late 2006, Mr Bamford was the team leader for a review of the UNDP-funded Nepal Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Programme. This was a major 5- year, US $5 million donor programme assisting with a wide range of rural tourism development initiatives \u2013 from policy to project implementation.
\nIn 2007, Bamford led a New Zealand Tourism Investment of opportunities in Viet Nam and is a team member of a Sarawak Inland Waterways Study for UNDP.
\nMr Bamford has an extensive background in New Zealand tourism and recreation management including strategic input into a range of National Park and Conservation management plans, recreation impact assessments for development projects. He is actively involved in reviews of recreation and
\ntourism opportunities for private clients in the North and South Islands including development projects requiring Resource Management Consents. He regularly works with Maori communities in assessing and developing tourism businesses that will benefit their communities.
\nMr Bamford has considerable experience in small tourism business development in New Zealand and the Pacific. He has initiated and developed three successful tourism businesses and subsequently managed the sale of these businesses (New Zealand Alpine Calendars, The Mountains to Sea and The Big Coast).
\nDave has been an advisor to many tourism businesses in New Zealand, the
\nPacific and Asia that are now successfully established. Mr Bamford is currently involved in a range of New Zealand business feasibility studies for a range of clients.
\nHe has a thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities for Pacific tourism business owners.
\nMr Bamford has extensive expedition experience in remote places such as:
\nAntarctica, Sub Antarctic Islands, Patagonia, Peruvian Andes, Karakorum,
\nHimalaya, Central Asia, Mongolia, Borneo, and the Pacific.
\nMr Bamford is a trustee of the Rainbow Warrior Trust (Pacific Development and Conservation Trust), an advisor to the NZ Government\u2019s Sir Edmund Hillary Expedition Grants Committee, an approved business advisor for Te Puni Kokiri (NZ Ministry of Maori Development) and was the President of the New Zealand Alpine Club, 2003-2005.<\/p>\n

KEY EXPERIENCE:<\/strong>
Mr Bamford had 12 years experience as a park ranger in New Zealand\u2019s national parks service before 1986. In 1986 he became a partner and co-founder of the private firm, Tourism Resource Consultants that he has jointly managed, successfully, for 20 years.
His early experience in national parks covered the full range of field management and field assessment work including scientific monitoring, park interpretation, backcountry tourism operations and safety services. Later, he held a senior supervisory role in the Department of Lands and Survey Head Office with oversight of all field operations, staff management, recruitment, training and promotion. During this time (six years), he also initiated New Zealand\u2019s international short course for national parks and protected area managers.
As a private consultant Mr Bamford now runs, with his two business partners and staff, a firm called Tourism Resource Consultants, which specialises in tourism, national parks and recreation planning. Mr Bamford\u2019s projects
usually have very strong links with protected area management, business and visitor use.
Mr Bamford has worked extensively throughout Asia, the Pacific, and New
Zealand over the last 20 years. In Samoa, Mr Bamford has worked with the
Samoan tourism industry as a tourism consultant since 1991. During 1992 and 1993, he worked in Sarawak (Malaysia) as Project Manager and was the National Park Specialist for the second Sarawak Tourism Masterplan, (duration nine months). Mr Bamford was the Tourism Resource Analyst for the Sabah Tourism Masterplan (1995). He was a team member and Project Manager for the Visitor Management Strategy for Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park (Ayers Rock) in Australia. He has been project manager\/director for several large NZAID projects in the Pacific including the NZAID Samoa Tourism Programme 1994\u20132003, the NZAID Fiji Ecotourism Programme 1997\u20132003 and the NZAID Tonga Nature Tourism Programme 1997\u20132004. He has been involved in a wide range of tourism projects in China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos PDR, Myanmar, New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific.
Mr Bamford has had thirty years developing and managing teams, both small and large. These include professional, inter-disciplinary planning teams such as the NZAID (NZODA) Fiji Ecotourism, Tonga, Samoa, Lake Khanas (China), Mongolia and Aid Programmes.
Mr Bamford has helped establish several offices offshore, examples include in Sarawak and in Sabah, Malaysia. Mr Bamford has extensive experience in the assessment, development and management of mountain, river and marine tourism products.
Mr Bamford has initiated and managed major adventure events in the backcountry of New Zealand and Asia. These include the New Zealand 1994
Raid Gauloises, The Grand Traverse, the New Zealand Mountains to Sea 1987- 1994, the Malaysian Raid Gauloises and the New Zealand Big Coast 1990-1996. He has an extensive understanding of all aspects of adventure\/multi-sports event management.
Mr Bamford has over 15 years of active involvement in tourism business
development and training in the Pacific and Asia.
In 2004 and 2005 Mr Bamford was the livelihoods specialist on the ADB\u2019s Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Strategy 2006-2015. Mr Bamford provided the propoor tourism input into this important project. In doing so he reviewed the six countries\u2019 propoor tourism policies, plans and initiatives and, after extensive consultation, prepared a sector report for the final ADB GMS Tourism Strategy
2006-2015. The study had a major focus on poverty reduction.
Mr Bamford has, in 2005-2006, been involved in poverty alleviation work in
Papua New Guinea that focussed initially on providing training for Papua New Guinea tourism operators. These included running multi-day tourism business training courses in Madang (2005) and Rabaul (2006). He is now helping prepare a major strategy for the IFC to assist a wide range of rural communities develop livelihood opportunities in and around the well known Kokoda Trail.
In late 2006, Mr Bamford was the team leader for a review of the UNDP-funded Nepal Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Programme. This was a major 5- year, US $5 million donor programme assisting with a wide range of rural tourism development initiatives \u2013 from policy to project implementation.
In 2007, Bamford led a New Zealand Tourism Investment of opportunities in Viet Nam and is a team member of a Sarawak Inland Waterways Study for UNDP.
Mr Bamford has an extensive background in New Zealand tourism and recreation management including strategic input into a range of National Park and Conservation management plans, recreation impact assessments for development projects. He is actively involved in reviews of recreation and
tourism opportunities for private clients in the North and South Islands including development projects requiring Resource Management Consents. He regularly works with Maori communities in assessing and developing tourism businesses that will benefit their communities.
Mr Bamford has considerable experience in small tourism business development in New Zealand and the Pacific. He has initiated and developed three successful tourism businesses and subsequently managed the sale of these businesses (New Zealand Alpine Calendars, The Mountains to Sea and The Big Coast).
Dave has been an advisor to many tourism businesses in New Zealand, the
Pacific and Asia that are now successfully established. Mr Bamford is currently involved in a range of New Zealand business feasibility studies for a range of clients.
He has a thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities for Pacific tourism business owners.
Mr Bamford has extensive expedition experience in remote places such as:
