The Intellectual Property and Innovation Committee, chaired by AmCham director Guillermo Carey, and moderated by Nicol\u00e1s Chiappara, General Manager of Cisco Chile, has held roundtable talks on the new Chilean bill on the Protection of Personal Data.<\/p>\n

One of the invited participants was Claudio Magliona, attorney from Garc\u00eda Magliona y C\u00eda. Ltda., Director of the Master\u2019s program in Law and Technologies at the University of Chile, with a Master\u2019s in Law, Science and Technology from Stanford. Magliona introduced the legal situation relating to the protection of personal data in Chile, as well as related international legislation and standards. He also discussed which of the issues are most relevant when it comes to drawing up new legislation.<\/p>\n
Another invited participant was Ra\u00fal Arrieta, Advisor at the Undersecretariat of the Economy on issues of technology regulation and the digital agenda. He explained that the challenge of the Government\u2019s project in this area is to create a system of personal data protection which supports the right of individuals to control and protect their information. This should be done, Arrieta continued, in such a way as to ensure fundamental rights are not impacted by the processing of data.<\/p>\n
