{"id":5216,"date":"2014-06-30T12:01:19","date_gmt":"2014-06-30T15:01:19","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2015-03-04T16:19:17","modified_gmt":"2015-03-04T19:19:17","slug":"films-de-espejos-energia-solar-mas-eficiente","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/amchamchile.cl\/en\/noticia\/films-de-espejos-energia-solar-mas-eficiente\/","title":{"rendered":"<!--:es-->Films de espejos: Energ\u00eda solar m\u00e1s eficiente <!--:--><!--:en-->Solar mirror film: A more efficient form of solar energy <!--:-->"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--:es--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Conscientes de que los mercados y los consumidores est\u00e1n exigiendo empresas cada vez m\u00e1s responsables y que sus procesos productivos impacten lo menos posible en el medio ambiente, hace cuatros a\u00f1os la exportadora de mostos y vinos, Jucosol, decidi\u00f3 buscar tecnolog\u00edas eficientes para incorporar energ\u00edas renovables en sus procesos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>En un comienzo, exploraron el uso de la energ\u00eda solar en sus instalaciones en San Felipe, en el Valle de Aconcagua, sin mucho \u00e9xito, debido a que el proyecto contemplaba el uso de colectores planos para captar la luz solar, lo que exig\u00eda una gran superficie e inversi\u00f3n, explica Christian Rey, gerente general de la firma vitivin\u00edcola que comercializa 6.500 toneladas de mosto concentrado al a\u00f1o, con ventas anuales por US$ 13 millones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Pese a ello, siguieron insistiendo, hasta que hace dos a\u00f1os se contactaron con la multinacional de la innovaci\u00f3n, 3M, para ver la posibilidad de usar par\u00e1bolas solares de gran eficiencia, pero que s\u00f3lo estaban probadas en Estados Unidos. Tras m\u00faltiples estudios llegaron a&nbsp;<\/span><span>la conclusi\u00f3n de que aquella tecnolog\u00eda se ajustaba a sus necesidades, ya que utilizaba una menor superficie de terreno respecto de los proyectos tradicionales. Luego de varias semanas de construcci\u00f3n y una inversi\u00f3n de US$ 500 mil, hace pocos d\u00edas este sistema -pionero a nivel mundial- comenz\u00f3 a operar con el objetivo de calentar el agua de la caldera.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Emplazado en una superficie de 700 metros cuadrados, las instalaciones les permitir\u00e1 generar alrededor de 800 MW\/ hora al a\u00f1o. Rey se\u00f1ala que les significar\u00e1 un ahorro de m\u00e1s de 10% en el consumo de kilo calor\u00edas de energ\u00eda anuales. Adem\u00e1s, reducir\u00e1n en 78 mil litros el uso de di\u00e9sel, lo que implica dejar de generar m\u00e1s de 190 mil kilogramos de CO2 al a\u00f1o, disminuyendo el impacto ambiental.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Es la primera vez en el mundo que una empresa implementa a nivel comercial el sistema Large Aperture Trough (LAT) 73, desarrollado por 3M y Gossamer Space Frames. Bajo la tecnolog\u00eda de Concentraci\u00f3n Solar Cilindro Parab\u00f3lica, utiliza films de espejos solares, en vez de vidrio como es habitual, lo que permite mayor reflectividad y captaci\u00f3n de luz. Ya exist\u00edan dos proyectos demostrativos en Estados Unidos y hoy se est\u00e1 instalando un segundo sistema en Jap\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Para Luis Lillo, business leader de 3M Purification INC de 3M Chile, la mayor particularidad de este sistema es la eficiencia: usa menos materiales, con una disminuci\u00f3n de cerca de 25%. De hecho, comenta que para 10 MW con vidrio se requieren 2.000frames, mientras que con film s\u00f3lo 1.500. Tambi\u00e9n se requiere menos infraestructura y espacio. Con vidrio, se pueden lograr par\u00e1bolas de no m\u00e1s de 5 metros, con film se puede llegar hasta los 7,3 metros de apertura, debido a estructuras m\u00e1s livianas, que requieren adem\u00e1s menos tiempo de fabricaci\u00f3n y menor costo de transporte. Adem\u00e1s, la flexibilidad del film permite que la radiaci\u00f3n solar llegue a niveles de intercepci\u00f3n de 99,3% y rango de concentraci\u00f3n de 103 al tubo central de la estructura donde se concentra la energ\u00eda, cifras que respaldan la efectividad de este sistema en el uso de la energ\u00eda solar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span>Nuevos proyectos<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Si todo sale de acuerdo a lo proyectado, Jucosol quiere incorporar m\u00e1s soluciones de energ\u00eda solar a sus procesos. Tiene pensado instalar otros ocho colectores solares parab\u00f3licos para generar vapor y, eventualmente, en una tercera etapa, instalar una turbina para producir electricidad. Esfuerzos sustentables, dice Christian Rey, que ayudan a la mejor trazabilidad de sus productos y menor contaminaci\u00f3n, factores apreciados por los consumidores y que les&nbsp;<span>permiten entrar, adem\u00e1s, a mercados m\u00e1s exigentes en estos temas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Para 3M, que desarrolla los films, y Gossamer, las estructuras, las proyecciones de crecimiento en el pa\u00eds son auspiciosas, sobre todo en el \u00e1rea agr\u00edcola y minera, siendo esta \u00faltima industria una gran consumidora de di\u00e9sel, combustible que resulta sencillo de sustituir con energ\u00eda solar, acota Lillo. Por ello, ya han sostenido rondas de reuniones para ver potenciales negocios y mostrando por primera vez en terreno el funcionamiento del sistema.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--:--><!--:en--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">International markets and consumers are increasingly demanding that businesses operate more responsibly and that their production processes have the smallest environmental impact possible. Conscious of this trend, four years ago the juice and wine export company Jucosol decided to seek out efficient renewable energy technologies for use in its business operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Initially, the company explored the use of solar energy in its facilities in San Felipe, in the Aconcagua Valley. Success in this endeavor was limited. As Christian Rey, General Manager of Jucosol explains, this was due to the project relying on flat collectors for capturing sunlight, which required not only a large area of land to operate but also a sizeable investment. The company itself sells 6,500 tons of concentrated wine juice per year, with annual sales of US$13 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Despite this initial setback, the company kept persevering. And then two years ago it contacted the multinational firm specializing in innovation, 3M, to investigate the possibility of using highly efficient parabolic collectors \u2013 which had, until that point, only been approved in the United States. Following numerous studies, a conclusion was reached that the technology was adequate for the company\u2019s needs, given that it required a smaller area of land than traditional projects.&nbsp; After a number of weeks spent on construction and an investment of US$500,000, this system \u2013 which is a pioneering one at the global level \u2013 began operating in June. The overall purpose of the system at Jucosol is to heat water in the company\u2019s industrial boiler.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Occupying an area of 700m2, the facility provides the company with approximately 800 MW\/hour per year. Rey notes that this will translate into savings of more than 10% of kilo calories of energy per year. It will also reduce diesel consumption by 78,000 liters, which in turn means generating 190,000kg less of CO2 per year. As such, the company\u2019s overall environmental impact will be reduced in the process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>This is the first time anywhere in the world that a company has implemented the Large Aperture Trough (LAT) 73 system (developed by 3M and Gossamer Space Frames) at a commercial level. Using the technology of the parabolic trough solar collector, solar mirror film is utilized instead of the more commonly used glass, ensuring improved reflectiveness and light capture. There are currently two demonstration projects in the United States and another system under construction in Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>For Luis Lillo, Business Leader of 3M Purification INC at 3M Chile, the greatest asset of this system is its efficiency, as it uses fewer materials, up to almost 25% less. In fact, he says that to generate 10 MW with glass, 2,000 frames are required, compared to just 1,500 using film. Furthermore, less infrastructure and space are needed. Using glass, troughs can only reach up to 5 meters in size, whereas with film they can open to as much as 7.3 meters, thanks to their lighter support structures. In addition, their lighter weight means they can be manufactured faster and associated transport costs are reduced.&nbsp; The flexibility of the film also allows additional benefits, including: solar radiation reaches interception levels of 99.3%; and a concentration range of 103 is achieved in the central absorber located in the structure where energy is concentrated. Figures such as these lend considerable support to the effectiveness of this solar energy system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>New projects<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>If everything goes according to plan, Jucosol intends to incorporate additional solar energy solutions into its business operations. Among their ideas is the instalment of a further eight parabolic trough solar collectors to generate steam and, eventually, in a third phase, install a turbine to generate electricity. Sustainable efforts such as these, says Christian Rey, will contribute to improved traceability of their products and less contamination \u2013 factors which are valued by customers and which also enable the company to access more environmentally-demanding markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<span>For 3M, who is responsible for developing the film, and Gossamer, which develops the support structures, growth projections in Chile are positive, especially in the agricultural and mining industries. As Lillo points out in relation to the mining industry\u2019s high consumption of diesel, this fuel can be easily replaced by solar energy.
