Toda familia con escolares j\u00f3venes debe ser consciente de las presiones que existen para convertirse en \u201cfamilia verde\u201d. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 \u201cescolares j\u00f3venes\u201d?, pues son los colegios los que est\u00e1n contaminando a nuestro hijos (y nietos) con conceptos como: vivir con menos, reciclar, andar en bici, desenchufar todo (pero el refri no) antes de ir a dormir, lavarse los dientes sin dejar correr el agua y, para peor, cambiar el auto (ya tenemos solo uno\u2026) por uno el\u00e9ctrico y usarlo solamente si no es factible usar transporte p\u00fablico\u2026<\/p>\n
En mi casa ya no mando como antes\u2026 pero todav\u00eda puedo opinar. La familia es una democracia y yo tengo solo un voto, pero insisto en el poder del veto. Por ejemplo, el reciclaje de la \u201cproducci\u00f3n natural\u201d de nuestros dos perros para hacer fertilizante recibi\u00f3 mi veto por olor insoportable. La \u201cNorma 2014 C1\u201d de nuestra casa: \u201cLas duchas deben ser de un m\u00e1ximo de 2 minutos para el sexo masculino y 5 minutos, para el sexo femenino\u201d. \u00bfJustificaci\u00f3n? \u2013 las mujeres deben lavar su pelo todos los d\u00edas, es m\u00e1s largo que el de los hombres y mucho m\u00e1s voluminoso. Esto casi recibi\u00f3 mi veto, pero tom\u00e9 la decisi\u00f3n de aceptar la norma, pero opt\u00e9 por otro camino: \u00a1ignorarla!<\/p>\n
En general vamos bien, pero los hijos (son 3) est\u00e1n siempre cambiando las normas como resultado de la intervenci\u00f3n de un (\u00a1simp\u00e1tico!) terrorista ambientalista que intenta contaminar a\u00fan m\u00e1s sus mentes con doctrinas nuevas. S\u00ed, es casi como una campa\u00f1a pol\u00edtica extrema. \u00bfCu\u00e1ntos \u00edtems o grupos de productos est\u00e1n separando para reciclaje? Seis: vidrio, lata, pl\u00e1stico, papel, compost o lo dem\u00e1s. \u00a1Insuficiente! Hay, por lo menos, tres tipos de pl\u00e1stico y no son compatibles; hay que identificarlos y separarlos, pues solo el polietileno es reciclable. Oh my God!<\/p>\n
\u00bfQu\u00e9 me falta entonces? Bater\u00edas o pilas, un compost que funcione; es decir, solamente productos naturales NO contaminados con aceite, sal, etc. El papel no puede tener nada de metal, por lo que los peque\u00f1os corchetes de las revistas o documentos de la oficina \u00a1hay que sacarlos todos! Es mucho trabajo\u2026 La ropa que ya no se usa por moda, por vieja e in\u00fatil o porque los ni\u00f1os crecen y nunca quieren usar ropa usada, debe ser organizada en \u201clotes\u201d y entregada a gente que le encanta usar ropa de segunda mano.<\/p>\n
Quiero salvar el planeta para las futuras generaciones y yo s\u00e9 que los cambios clim\u00e1ticos son verdaderos, \u00a1pero la vida es corta y quiero gozar de los a\u00f1os que me quedan! La semana pasada mi hija de 14 a\u00f1os se enoj\u00f3 conmigo cuando bot\u00e9 un cart\u00f3n de tetrapack al basurero de papel. \u201cPap\u00e1, tu sabes que el tetrapack no es papel\u201d.<\/p>\n

Y as\u00ed vamos en mi casa. A veces el diario ha sido reciclado antes de que quien paga la cuenta haya tenido la oportunidad de leerlo. Y ni hablar de los puntos limpios. Mis hijos me dijeron que es una obligaci\u00f3n seguir el proceso DESPU\u00c9S (es decir m\u00e1s all\u00e1) del punto limpio que utilicemos, pues hay sospecha de que todo el (doloroso) esfuerzo de nuestro peque\u00f1o grupo familiar termina siendo mezclado en un enorme basural tradicional. \u00a1El colmo, opin\u00e9 yo!<\/p>\n
Por todo esto, me encantan los viajes: avi\u00f3n contaminante (combustible y toneladas de basura), taxi contaminante, f\u00e1brica de tabiques tradicionales muy contaminante; pero lejos lo mejor es que no hay nadie para medir si mi ducha dur\u00f3 3, 4 u 8 minutos\u2026 \u00a1de lujo! S\u00ed, pero hay una notita de la gerencia solicitando al viajero usar las toallas por tres d\u00edas\u2026<\/p>\n
No hay como escapar de la consciencia. S\u00ed, somos una familia verde, muy verde. La huerta ha sido todo un \u00e9xito; creo que hemos cosechado un total de 5 tomates semi verdes (\u00a1de color!), pero a un costo realmente razonable: \u00a1unos $300 cada uno y eso es sin fertilizante o pesticida! Ahora saben porque us\u00e9 mi veto para los desechos de los perros.<\/p>\n

Every family with young school children is probably aware of the pressures of becoming a \u201cgreen family\u201d. Why specifically \u201cyoung school children\u201d? Well, because it is high schools that are contaminating our children (and grandchildren) with concepts like: living with less, recycling, getting around on a bicycle, unplugging everything (but not the fridge) before going to bed, brushing your teeth without letting the water run and, worst of all, changing the car (we only have the one) for an electric substitute and only using it if public transport proves impractical\u2026<\/p>\n
I am no longer in charge at home like I once was\u2026 but I can still have an opinion. The family is a democracy and I only have one vote, but I insist on the right to veto. For example, I vetoed recycling the \u201cnatural produce\u201d from our two dogs to make fertilizer, on the grounds of the unbearable smell. \u201cRegulation 2014 C1\u201d at my house: \u201cShowers must be a maximum of two minutes for males and five minutes for females\u201d. The justification? Women have to wash their hair every day, it is far longer than men\u2019s hair and much more voluminous. I almost vetoed this one, but agreed to accept the rule, opting instead for a different path: ignoring it!<\/p>\n
In general it is going well, but the children (three of them) are always changing the rules, thanks to the intervention of a (very nice!) environmental terrorist who is trying to contaminate their minds even more with new doctrines. Yes, it is practically an extremist political campaign. How many different items or product groups are we separating the recycling into? Six: glass, tin, plastic, paper, compost and the rest. But that is not enough! There are, at least, three types of plastic and they are not mutually compatible; you have to identify them and separate them, because only polyethylene can be recycled. Oh my God!<\/p>\n
What else is there? What type of batteries, a compost that works; i.e., only natural products that are NOT contaminated with oil, salt, etc. Paper must have no traces of metal, so the little staples on magazines or office documents, they all have to be removed! This is a lot of work\u2026 Clothes that have gone out of fashion, are old and useless or because the children have grown out of them and do not want to wear used clothes, must be organized into \u201cbatches\u201d and given to people who love using second hand clothing.<\/p>\n
I want to save the planet for future generations and I know that climate change is real. But life is short and I want to make the most of the years I have left! Last week my 14 year old daughter got mad at me when I threw a Tetra Pak carton into the trash can designated for paper. \u201cDad, you know that Tetra Pak isn\u2019t paper\u201d.<\/p>\n

That is what it is like in my house. Sometimes the newspaper has been recycled before the person who pays for it has had a chance to read it. And do not even mention the recycling centers. My children tell me that it is an obligation to follow the process AFTER (i.e. beyond) the recycling center we use, because of the suspicion that all the (painful) efforts of our little family group are just being dumped into a huge traditional garbage dump. This is just too much!<\/p>\n
Despite all this, I still love traveling: airplanes that pollute (fuel and tons of garbage), taxis that pollute, traditional brick factories that pollute heavily; but by far the best thing is that there is nobody measuring whether my shower lasts three, four or eight minutes \u2026 luxurious! Yes, but there is a little note from the management requesting the traveler use the same towel for three days\u2026<\/p>\n
There is no way to escape the conscience. Yes, we are a green family, a very green family. The vegetable patch has been a great success; I think we have harvested five whole semi-green (the color!) tomatoes, but at a very reasonable cost: just $300 each one, and that is without fertilizer or pesticide! Now you know why I vetoed using the dog waste.<\/p>\n
