No quiero ser deprimente o despectivo, pero perm\u00edtame hacerle una pregunta: \u00bfest\u00e1 listo para 10 meses de ret\u00f3rica pre electoral, promesas (f\u00e1ciles de hacer y demasiado a menudo imposibles de cumplir), divulgaciones, acusaciones, revelaciones y negaciones, primarias, secundarias, negociaciones al interior y entre los partidos, encuestas mensuales, semanales e incluso diarias, editoriales interminables, informaci\u00f3n confidencial, informaci\u00f3n externa, filtraciones y manipulaciones, debates y m\u00e1s rebates, etc.<\/P>

Bueno, para empezar me regocija la posibilidad de que corra sangre \u201cvirtual\u201d desde la iCloud hacia todos los medios de comunicaci\u00f3n posibles. Tweetearemos y nos quejaremos hasta el mismo d\u00eda de la elecci\u00f3n, o hasta los dos d\u00edas de elecci\u00f3n si no tenemos un ganador en la primera vuelta programada para el domingo 17 de noviembre.<\/P>

La \u00fanica conclusi\u00f3n a la que puedo llegar tan temprano dentro de la carrera es que habr\u00e1 un ganador y, quienquiera que sea \u00e9l o ella, el sol saldr\u00e1 a la ma\u00f1ana siguiente. Puede que no lo veamos por la contaminaci\u00f3n, pero ah\u00ed estar\u00e1, sonri\u00e9ndonos como si nada hubiera cambiado. Bueno, a no ser que la contaminaci\u00f3n de Beijing cause un cambio clim\u00e1tico tan r\u00e1pido que el 2013 se convierta en \u201cel a\u00f1o en que el sol nunca brill\u00f3\u201d, lo que en efecto sucedi\u00f3 en el a\u00f1o 535 de la era cristiana \u00a1por la erupci\u00f3n del volc\u00e1n Krakatoa (Indonesia en la actualidad)!<\/P>

Puedo garantizar que el presidente Pi\u00f1era gobernar\u00e1 hasta el \u00faltimo minuto de su mandato; est\u00e1 en su ADN. \u00bfCu\u00e1nto importa en realidad a qui\u00e9n elijamos para reemplazarlo? En un estado verdaderamente democr\u00e1tico, y la mayor\u00eda de nosotros cree que Chile es \u201cverdaderamente democr\u00e1tico\u201d con una equilibrada separaci\u00f3n de poderes, es dif\u00edcil hacer mucho bien o mucho mal en apenas cuatro a\u00f1os. Ahora que lo pienso, quiz\u00e1s George W. es una excepci\u00f3n a esa regla.<\/P>

\u00a1Parece tardar m\u00e1s de cuatro a\u00f1os hacer que cualquier cosa salvo un \u201cproyecto de ley con urgencia\u201d pase por el Congreso!<\/P>

Creo que esta elecci\u00f3n se tratar\u00e1 del \u201ccarisma y la credibilidad\u201d. La sonrisa brillante y los impecables dientes blancos del pol\u00edtico; la honestidad y la sinceridad del \u201centiendo su problema y empatizo\u201d\u2026 \u00a1\u00a1No puedo creer que escrib\u00ed esa tontera; no creo una palabra de eso!! S\u00e9 que esta vez tengo la opci\u00f3n de votar, porque hacerlo dej\u00f3 de ser una \u201cobligaci\u00f3n legal\u201d. Esto me vuelve arrogante y me convierte en un \u201cvotante indeciso\u201d: mi voto est\u00e1 disponible, pero es necesario que me convenzan. Si no lo hacen, entonces ir\u00e9 a pescar. Puede que represente un solo voto -bueno, creo que puedo llevar el voto de la se\u00f1ora, entonces son dos-, pero quiz\u00e1s podr\u00edamos marcar la diferencia (como ocurri\u00f3 en una elecci\u00f3n municipal en Santiago en octubre reci\u00e9n pasado).<\/P>

Entonces, candidatos todos y cada uno, creo que descubrir\u00e1n que hay un mill\u00f3n de votantes como yo: nos tienen que convencer, no comprar. Bueno, si reparten mucho dinero ser\u00eda un est\u00fapido si dijera que no, pero no hay ninguna garant\u00eda de que les dar\u00e9 mi voto.<\/P>

En todo caso, \u00a1\u00a1me encanta la pesca!!<\/P>

And so we are, once again, in a Presidential Election Year; doesn\u2019t time simply fly by when you are having fun? I don\u2019t wish to be depressing or disparaging but let me ask you one question: are you ready for another seven months of pre-election rhetoric, promises (easy to make and too often impossible to keep), disclosures, accusations, revelations and denials, primaries, secondaries, inter and intra-party negotiations, monthly, weekly and even daily polls, endless editorials, inside information, outside information, leaks and tweaks; and then the proposals, accusations and denials of the numerous debates and re-debates, etc.<\/P>

Well, I for one am gloating over the prospect of \u201cvirtual\u201d blood flowing from the iCloud into all possible means of communication. We will tweet and bleat right up to polling day \u2013 or both polling days if we do not have a winner after Round 1 on Sunday, November 17.<\/P>
\n
The only conclusion I can draw this early in the race is that there will be one winner and, whoever he or she may be, the sun will come up the next morning. We may not be able to see her (the sun that is) for the smog but she will be there, smiling down on us as if nothing at all has changed. Well, unless Beijing\u2019s pollution causes such rapid climate change that 2013 becomes \u201cthe year the sun never shone\u201d \u2013 which did actually happen in 535 AD as a result of the Krakatoa volcano (modern day Indonesia) erupting!<\/P>

I can guarantee that President Pi\u00f1era will govern until the very last minute of his mandate; it is in his DNA. But, how much does it really matter who we elect to replace him? In a truly democratic state, and we mostly believe Chile to be \u201ctruly democratic\u201d with a balanced separation of powers, it is tough to do much good or much damage in just four years. Come to think of it, perhaps George W. is an exception to that rule…<\/P>

It seems to take more than four years to get anything except an \u201cemergency bill\u201d through Congress!<\/P>

I believe this election will be all about \u201clikeability and credibility\u201d. The politician\u2019s beaming smile and impeccable set of white teeth; the honesty and the \u201cI understand your problem and I empathize\u201d sincerity\u2026 I can\u2019t believe I wrote that crap; I don\u2019t believe a word of it!! I do know that this time around I have the option to vote since it is no longer a \u201clegal obligation\u201d. This makes me arrogant and a \u201cfence voter\u201d \u2013 my vote is available but you need to sell me. If you do not, then I will go fishing. I may represent a single vote \u2013 well, I think I can carry Mrs. Eneldo\u2019s vote, which makes two \u2013 but perhaps we could make the difference (as happened in one municipal election in Santiago this past October).<\/P>

So, candidates one and all, I believe you will discover that there are about one million voters just like me \u2013 we need to be sold, not bought. Well, if you are handing out big bucks then I would be stupid to say no, but that is no guarantee I will give you my vote.<\/P>
