El 3 de julio, se llevaron a cabo las primeras rondas de debates en AmCham para lanzar el Gran Debate Corporativo 2012, el concurso anual de debate organizado por AmCham y El Mercurio que est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ado para dar a los profesionales chilenos la oportunidad de practicar su ingl\u00e9s y habilidades de oratoria.<\/p>\n
En esa ronda, Walmart super\u00f3 a Siemens al discutir respecto de si Chile deber\u00eda tener un Ministerio de Cultura, y Maersk derrot\u00f3 a Bechtel argumentando que \u201clas fuentes de energ\u00eda e\u00f3lica, geot\u00e9rmica, hidroel\u00e9ctrica y solar de energ\u00edas limpias son la mejor soluci\u00f3n para los futuros problemas de energ\u00eda de Chile\u201d. El 5 de julio, DHL se impuso a la Academia Diplom\u00e1tica del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, debatiendo en contra del tema \u201cel transporte p\u00fablico en Chile no deber\u00eda subsidiarse\u201d. En el otro debate de esa fecha, Banco Santander le gan\u00f3 a Metlife al sostener que \u201cChile deber\u00eda extender el per\u00edodo presidencial de cuatro a seis a\u00f1os\u201d.<\/p>\n
El debate final se llevar\u00e1 a cabo el 14 de agosto en las oficinas de El Mercurio. En la final del a\u00f1o pasado, el equipo de la Direcci\u00f3n General de Relaciones Econ\u00f3micas Internacionales (Direcon) del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores derrot\u00f3 a Walmart.<\/p>\n
Este a\u00f1o, tal como en ocasiones anteriores, los moderadores son Michael Combes y Drina Rendic, quienes han sido los impulsores de esta gran iniciativa desde su concepci\u00f3n. El panel de jueces est\u00e1 compuesto por Philip Ilabarra, James Newbold, Arnold Cotton, Gonzalo Biggs, Luciano Claude, Robert Kinsman, Karen Poniachik, Ricardo Ossand\u00f3n, James Channing Jr. y Mike Kinsberg.<\/p>\n

On July 3, the first round of debates took place at AmCham to launch The Great Corporate Debate 2012 \u2013 an annual debating competition organized by AmCham and El Mercurio that is designed to give Chilean professionals a chance to practice their English and public speaking skills.<\/p>\n
In this round, Walmart beat Siemens arguing for the motion \u201cChile should have a Ministry of Culture\u201d, and Maersk defeated Bechtel arguing that \u201cwind, geothermal, hydro and solar sources of clean power are the best solution for Chile\u00b4s future energy concerns\u201d. On July 5, DHL triumphed over the Foreign Affairs Ministry\u2019s Diplomatic Academy, debating against the motion that \u201cPublic transport in Chile should not be subsidized\u201d. In the other match-up, Banco Santander edged out Metlife affirming that \u201cChile should increase the Presidential term from four years to six\u201d.<\/p>\n
The final debate will be held on August 14 at the offices of El Mercurio. In last year\u2019s final, the team from the Foreign Ministry\u2019s International Economic Affairs Office, Direcon, defeated Walmart.<\/p>\n
This year, as in previous years, the moderators are Michael Combes and Drina Rendic, who have been the drivers of this initiative since its conception.
