El directorio de AmCham da la bienvenida a Rodrigo y, junto con los socios de la C\u00e1mara, espera con entusiasmo trabajar con \u00e9l para seguir promoviendo el comercio y la inversi\u00f3n entre Estados Unidos y Chile.<\/p>\n
Al mismo tiempo, el directorio quisiera agradecer a Jaime Baz\u00e1n, el saliente gerente general de AmCham, por sus 16 a\u00f1os de excepcional servicio a la C\u00e1mara.<\/p>\n
Jaime dirigi\u00f3 un per\u00edodo de gran importancia para AmCham, el que incluy\u00f3 respaldar activamente el proceso que trajo como resultado la conclusi\u00f3n exitosa del tratado de libre comercio entre Chile y Estados Unidos (suscrito en el 2003). Este probablemente sea el acontecimiento individual m\u00e1s importante para una AmCham en el sentido de que un acuerdo institucionaliza el compromiso de ambas partes con una relaci\u00f3n comercial y de inversi\u00f3n de largo plazo basada en el beneficio mutuo y valores compartidos; es la piedra angular sobre la que AmCham contin\u00faa construyendo.<\/p>\n
Jaime desempe\u00f1\u00f3 un rol clave para AmCham en este proceso. Comenz\u00f3 por forjar y profesionalizar al equipo de la C\u00e1mara. Durante las negociaciones del tratado de libre comercio, tambi\u00e9n respald\u00f3 al directorio de AmCham al concentrarse en actividades para responder a la crucial pregunta de \u201c\u00bfpor qu\u00e9?\u201d para actores clave en el Congreso de Estados Unidos, el Poder Ejecutivo dentro del Gobierno de Estados Unidos y la comunidad empresarial. Respald\u00f3 estrategias para facilitar las negociaciones entre Chile y Estados Unidos. Alent\u00f3 el optimismo respecto de un resultado positivo de las negociaciones, una labor a veces dif\u00edcil y marat\u00f3nica considerando que concluir el acuerdo demor\u00f3 m\u00e1s de 11 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n
Una vez suscrito el pacto, Jaime lider\u00f3 una AmCham concentrada en trabajar para educar a las empresas en Chile y Estados Unidos sobre los beneficios del acuerdo al tiempo que promov\u00eda eventos de networking, estudios y misiones para convertirlas en oportunidades de inversi\u00f3n y comercio.<\/p>\n
Sabiamente asesor\u00f3 a ocho presidentes distintos de AmCham incluido su actual titular, Javier Irarr\u00e1zaval.<\/p>\n
Llev\u00f3 a cabo sus funciones con gran diplomacia, lo que refleja sus 22 a\u00f1os de carrera en el servicio diplom\u00e1tico, adem\u00e1s de su incre\u00edble compromiso personal y tremendo esp\u00edritu de equipo, por lo que deja atr\u00e1s un legado de mucho valor para los miembros de AmCham y la comunidad empresarial m\u00e1s amplia. M\u00e1s a\u00fan, concluy\u00f3 su trabajo en una manera humilde y respetuosa, la que -a su vez- fue admirada y respetada por todos.<\/p>\n
Nosotros, el directorio de AmCham, agradecemos a Jaime por su servicio y le deseamos buena suerte en sus futuras iniciativas. Adem\u00e1s esperamos con entusiasmo recibir su continuo consejo a medida que avanzamos hacia un nuevo cap\u00edtulo en la historia de la organizaci\u00f3n. Seguimos optimistas y agradecidos por los logros pasados de AmCham, un pasado que Jaime ayud\u00f3 a idear y a hacer realidad.<\/p>\n

This month AmCham incorporates a new leader \u2013 Rodrigo Ballivi\u00e1n, the Chamber\u2019s recently appointed executive director. Rodrigo joins AmCham from the private sector where he has held leadership roles in business associations, non-profit organizations and multinational companies. He speaks of the challenges and opportunities facing AmCham in this month\u2019s interview in bUSiness CHILE.<\/p>\n
AmCham\u2019s board welcomes Rodrigo and, together with the Chamber\u2019s members, enthusiastically looks forward to working with him to further promote trade and investment between the United States and Chile.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the board would like to thank Jaime Baz\u00e1n, AmCham\u2019s outgoing general manager, for his 16 years of outstanding service to the Chamber.<\/p>\n
Jaime oversaw a period of great importance to AmCham, which included actively supporting the process that resulted in the successful completion of the Free Trade Agreement between Chile and the United States (signed in 2003). This is probably the single most important event for an AmCham in that such an agreement institutionalizes the commitment of both sides to a long-term commercial and investment relationship based on mutual benefit and shared values \u2013 it is the cornerstone on which AmCham continues to build.<\/p>\n
Jaime played a pivotal role for AmCham in this process. He started by building and professionalizing AmCham\u2019s staff. During the FTA negotiations, he also supported the AmCham board by focusing on activities to answer the crucial question \u201cwhy Chile?\u201d for key players in the US Congress, the executive branch of US government and the business community. He supported strategies to facilitate negotiations between Chile and the United States. He encouraged optimism regarding a positive outcome to the negotiations \u2013 a sometimes difficult and marathonic task considering that completing the agreement took over 11 years.<\/p>\n
Once signed, Jaime led an AmCham focused on working to educate businesses in Chile and the United States about the benefits of the agreement while promoting networking events, studies and missions to turn it into trade and investment opportunities.<\/p>\n
He wisely advised eight separate AmCham presidents including the current president, Javier Irarr\u00e1zaval.<\/p>\n
He carried out his responsibilities with great diplomacy, reflecting his 22-year career in the diplomatic service, as well as his incredible personal commitment and tremendous team spirit, leaving behind a legacy of much value to AmCham\u2019s members and the broader business community. Moreover, he completed his work in a self-effacing and respectful manner that was, in turn, admired and respected by all.<\/p>\n
We, AmCham\u2019s board, thank Jaime for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors. We also look forward to receiving his ongoing advice as we move into a new chapter in the history of the organization. We remain optimistic and appreciative of AmCham\u2019s past achievements, a past that Jaime helped to frame and to make a reality.<\/p>\n
