Chilean telecommunications firm Entel announced in November that it has signed a non-binding letter of intent with rival Grupo GTD to merge their operations. The operation will take place through a share exchange, by which current holders of Grupo GTD will hold 9.8% of Entel\u2019s shares. The operation will take several months to complete and obtain the corresponding approvals.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis agreement will allow greater investment in networks and equipment, which will provide additional and improved services to our enterprises and residential clients,\u201d said Grupo GTD\u2019s president, Manuel Casanueva.<\/p>\n
For his part, Entel\u2019s CEO Antonio Buchi noted the potential synergies, especially in expanding Entel\u2019s fibre optic network: \u201cThis operation is of great importance to our future development and will allow us to leverage areas such as fixed connectivity and the residential segment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
