Para aquellos de ustedes que han tenido la suficiente fortuna de seguir mi recorrido global en las \u00faltimas tres ediciones de bUSiness Chile les encantar\u00e1 saber que volv\u00ed a la seguridad de mi casa en Santiago\u2026 \u00bfSeguridad? \u00a1Tienen que estar bromeando! Tras la paz, tranquilidad y el aire incre\u00edblemente limpio de Mongolia volv\u00ed al caos. Incluso comet\u00ed el indigno acto de llorar en p\u00fablico, porque me ard\u00edan los ojos (y la garganta). Resulta que estaba en la direcci\u00f3n del viento de las manifestaciones de los estudiantes en Providencia. Para m\u00ed, fue un \u201caterrizaje chocante\u201d. Dej\u00e9 Chile en un estado de paz, orgullo y prosperidad, y hab\u00eda vuelto para encontrar al pa\u00eds \u00a1casi paralizado! \u00bfQu\u00e9 pas\u00f3 en mi ausencia? \u00bfQu\u00e9 hicieron para echarlo a perder?<\/p>\n
El pa\u00eds se dispone a crecer a una muy razonable tasa del 6,5 al 7% este a\u00f1o, pero parece haber un impulso determinado por el cambio y nuestros l\u00edderes pol\u00edticos, de todos los colores, han perdido la confianza del \u201cpueblo\u201d; las encuestas muestran un nivel extraordinariamente alto de desaprobaci\u00f3n. Quiz\u00e1s todo sea culpa de La Roja: la selecci\u00f3n chilena de f\u00fatbol que se supon\u00eda ten\u00eda que tener un desempe\u00f1o tan bueno en la Copa Am\u00e9rica, celebrada recientemente en Argentina, pero fue eliminada por Venezuela en cuartos de final. Quiz\u00e1s \u201cel vulgo com\u00fan\u201d est\u00e1 buscando dar rienda a su furia aqu\u00ed en casa cuando era incapaz de hacerlo en ese triste momento de derrota.<\/p>\n
Ha habido huelgas, tomas y marchas de estudiantes que se volvieron violentas. Sume este descontento general a la incertidumbre generalizada de los mercados internacionales y finalmente \u201cplop\u201d Standard & Poor\u2019s lanza la bomba: Estados Unidos pierde su calificaci\u00f3n de deuda AAA por primera vez en su historia. Parecer\u00eda que el mundo como lo conocemos est\u00e1 llegando a su fin; y \u00a1ni siquiera podemos culpar al calentamiento global!<\/p>\n
Pero esperen, esta es la democracia expres\u00e1ndose en el 2011 y \u00a1deber\u00edamos celebrar! El cambio est\u00e1 siendo exigido por aquellos que est\u00e1n m\u00e1s cerca del problema; es maravilloso. Y la \u00fanica constante en la vida \u00a1ES el cambio! Voy a marchar, pero usando una m\u00e1scara de Superman solo para que la Sra. Eneldo no me reconozca en el noticiario de la noche.<\/p>\n
Sin embargo, \u00bfqu\u00e9 pasar\u00eda si pudi\u00e9ramos canalizar toda esta energ\u00eda callejera en causas m\u00e1s constructivas? Me pregunto cu\u00e1ntos megavatios de energ\u00eda humana se han consumido ( o \u00bfdesperdiciado?) en las marchas en contra del status quo? Desde la palabrer\u00eda pol\u00edtica hasta el agua y gas empleados para dispersar las manifestaciones. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 no hay espacio para el di\u00e1logo en todo esto? \u00bfD\u00f3nde est\u00e1n los moderadores, los verdaderos pensadores y planificadores y legisladores?<\/p>\n
Si los grupos de protesta \u201cganan\u201d cualquiera que sean sus demandas, \u00bfqu\u00e9 mensaje estamos enviando? \u00bfSea violento y en definitiva va a obtener lo que quiere? \u00bfQu\u00e9 le pas\u00f3 al di\u00e1logo? \u00bfEliminaron las redes sociales y el uso de \u201clenguaje minimizado\u201d (como \u201c@ PI @ 4\u201d; en lugar de \u201cEn Plaza Italia a las 4\u201d) nuestra capacidad de conversar y negociar?<\/p>\n
Creo que Chile tiene un extraordinario potencial para crecer, para resolver problemas sociales y entregar una \u201cbuena vida con oportunidades para todos\u201d, pero esto solo puede suceder a trav\u00e9s del consenso que resulta del di\u00e1logo y la negociaci\u00f3n, del dar y recibir, y del buen liderazgo. Y lo ir\u00f3nico es que \u00a1las cosas realmente no est\u00e1n tan mal!<\/p>\n

Necesitamos Energizar <\/em>y canalizar la energ\u00eda en resolver problemas, promover la tan necesaria legislaci\u00f3n, garantizar a las personas que el valioso cambio est\u00e1 en marcha y que Chile es \u201cun gran lugar donde vivir\u201d. Es tiempo de sentarse y hablar. El progreso solo puede ocurrir cuando todos colocan su concentraci\u00f3n en las soluciones y no en los problemas.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Esta es la regla de la Democracia con las reglas de la Democracia; \u00a1mejor acostumbrarse! Por supuesto, estoy disponible para ayudar\u2026<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sin embargo, estoy evaluando un regreso inmediato a Mongolia, donde desde mi Ger -o domo si prefiere- puedo vivir en paz y armon\u00eda con lo que me rodee: la estepa, los n\u00f3mades, los yaks, las cabras, las ovejas y los caballos, y donde el esti\u00e9rcol seco se quema efectivamente para cocinar y entregar calefacci\u00f3n\u2026 \u00a1un muy efectivo reciclaje! Voy a mediar por algunos meses. Safety? You\u2019ve gotta be joking! After the peace and quiet and incredibly clean air of Mongolia I returned to chaos. I even suffered the indignity of crying in public because my eyes (and throat) were stinging. It turns out I was down wind of student demonstrations in Providencia. For me, it has been a \u201cshock landing\u201d. I left Chile in a state of peace, pride and prosperity and have returned to find the country almost paralyzed! What happened in my absence? What did y\u2019all do to mess it up?<\/p>\n The country is set to grow by a very reasonable 6.5 to 7% this year but there appears to be a determined momentum for change and our political leaders, of all colors, have lost the confidence of \u201cthe people\u201d; the polls show an extraordinarily high level of disapproval. Perhaps it is all the fault of La Roja: the Chilean soccer team that was supposed to perform so well at the Copa America, held recently in Argentina, but was eliminated by Venezuela in the quarter finals. Perhaps \u201cpopulus comunus\u201d is looking to vent its fury here at home when it was unable to do so in that sad moment of defeat.<\/p>\n There have been student strikes, sit-ins and marches which turn violent. Add to this general discontent the overall uncertainty of international markets and finally \u201cplop\u201d Standard & Poor\u2019s drops the bomb: the USA loses its AAA rating for the first time ever. It would seem the world as we know it is coming to an end \u2013 and we can\u2019t even blame global warming!<\/p>\n But wait, this is democracy expressing itself in 2011 and we should celebrate!! Change is being demanded by those who are closest to the problem; it is wonderful. And the only constant in life IS change! I will be marching but wearing a Superman mask just so Mrs. Eneldo doesn\u2019t recognize me on the evening news.<\/p>\n However, what would happen if we could channel all this street energy into more constructive causes? I wonder how many megawatts of human energy have been consumed (wasted?) in marching against the status quo? From political hot air to the cold water and gas used to quell demonstrations. Why is there no room for dialogue in all this? Where are the moderators, the true thinkers and planners and legislators?<\/p>\n If protest groups \u201cwin\u201d whatever their demands may be, what message are we sending? Be violent and you will ultimately get what you want? Whatever happened to dialogue? Has social networking and use of \u201cminimized language\u201d (as in \u201cB @ PI @ 4\u201d; instead of \u201cBe at Plaza Italia at 4\u201d) removed our ability to converse and negotiate?<\/p>\n I believe Chile has an extraordinary potential to grow, to resolve social problems and provide a \u201cgood life with opportunities for all\u201d, but this can only come about through consensus which results from dialogue and negotiation, of give and take and good leadership. And the irony is that things really aren\u2019t that bad!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n We need to Energize<\/em> and channel the energy into resolving problems, promoting much needed legislation, reassuring people that worthwhile change is on the way and that Chile is \u201ca great place to live\u201d. It is time to sit down and talk. Progress can only happen where everyone becomes focused on solutions and not problems.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This is the rule of Democracy with Democracy\u2019s rules; better get used to it!
