Con el debido respeto, Sr. Presidente, al menos podr\u00eda haber respondido la invitaci\u00f3n que le extend\u00ed a usted y a la Sra. Obama (o Michelle como la mayor\u00eda de nosotros prefiere decirle) para tomar el t\u00e9 con la Sra. Eneldo y conmigo. Hicimos limpiar y pulir nuestro mejor juego de t\u00e9, preparamos waffles para las ni\u00f1as y la Sra. Eneldo incluso cocin\u00f3 un queque (de naranja) que siempre es bastante delicioso aun cuando ella, con buenas razones, usualmente deja la cocina en manos de otros.<\/P>
\n

Nuestra decepci\u00f3n fue doble debido a que hab\u00edamos prometido a la \u201cfamilia extendida\u201d (cerca de 70 personas en total) que podr\u00edan acampar en el jard\u00edn y ver nuestro Tea Party a trav\u00e9s de las ventanas del living. Nuestros nietos s\u00f3lo anhelaban jugar con sus hijas absolutamente encantadoras.<\/P>
\n

Un amigo m\u00edo, que \u201cconoce a personas en las altas esferas de AmCham\u201d, me dijo que el hecho de que yo tuviera un generador iran\u00ed a energ\u00eda nuclear en el jard\u00edn me pudo haber colocado en alguna Lista de Observaci\u00f3n. Dado que a\u00fan estamos esperando nuestra primera entrega de uranio enriquecido, en realidad este no es una amenaza. Incluso llegu\u00e9 a contratar a 40 detectives retirados de la polic\u00eda civil para resguardar el per\u00edmetro de seguridad. Esto, combinado con los agresivos instintos de nuestro labrador, Picasso, lo habr\u00edan mantenido a usted y a su familia a salvo de cualquier lun\u00e1tico, fan\u00e1tico o hooligan del f\u00fatbol en la escena local.<\/P>
\n

\u00a1Pero usted nunca vino! T\u00e9 Earl Grey preparado con agua reci\u00e9n filtrada, desperdiciado. Miel de mis propias abejas, de vuelta en el frasco. Cuando nos dimos cuenta de que usted no vendr\u00eda tuvimos que explicar, con algo de verg\u00fcenza, a los vecinos que pod\u00edan volver a sus hogares dado que la \u201ccrisis\u201d se hab\u00eda controlado. S\u00e9 que est\u00e1 pensando \u00bfde qu\u00e9 \u201ccrisis\u201d habla? Bueno, con el fin de garantizar la seguridad para su visita declar\u00e9 una alerta de fuga de gas y fui casa por casa aconsejando a los vecinos que evacuaran hasta que fuera seguro volver a sus hogares.<\/P>
\n

Sin embargo, nuestra mayor decepci\u00f3n es que usted se dio el tiempo para desayunar con el Sr. Sebasti\u00e1n Pi\u00f1era y con la Sra. Cecilia Morel, cuando s\u00e9 que habr\u00eda preferido comer tocino, huevos (pochados), salchichas southern sausage, tomates, salvado de ma\u00edz y pan casero de masa fermentada con la Sra. E y conmigo sin la necesidad de hablar de pol\u00edtica. No fui a Harvard (bueno, he estado ah\u00ed, pero s\u00f3lo de visita; \u00a1\u00a1tengo la polera!!), pero habr\u00edamos estado felices s\u00f3lo con o\u00edrlo contar historias de la familia. \u00a1Otra oportunidad perdida!<\/P>
\n

Esperamos que tenga \u00e9xito en su carrera por la reelecci\u00f3n el pr\u00f3ximo a\u00f1o. No hay ninguna garant\u00eda, por supuesto, tal como le dir\u00e1n el Sr. Carter y el Sr. George Bush padre\u2026 Sin embargo, pensando positivo, nos sentimos seguros de que volver\u00e1 pronto a Chile y la Sra. E y yo quisi\u00e9ramos extenderle la invitaci\u00f3n para tomar t\u00e9 (o desayuno si lo prefiere) ahora de manera que no haya ninguna excusa para no aceptar. De seguro a usted no le falta transporte, pero le recomendar\u00eda que use un taxi local (int\u00e9ntelo y tome uno con buena suspensi\u00f3n y un conductor que haya vivido en Santiago por algunos a\u00f1os) porque nadie creer\u00eda que usted anda por todos lados sin \u00a1\u00a1100 agentes de seguridad!! Un taxi local, seguro como las casas. Hablando de lo cual, tenemos una bastante linda y usted estar\u00eda muy c\u00f3modo; una sal\u00f3n de juegos con un gran televisor en el segundo piso y sin da\u00f1o por el terremoto.<\/P>
\n

Podr\u00e1 ver c\u00f3mo viven los chilenos de clase media reales y, si le gusta el t\u00e9 tanto como creo que le gustar\u00e1, qu\u00e9dese y podemos compartir una botella de Merlot \u2013un agradable vino tinto- mientras charlamos.<\/P>
\n

Espero saber de usted, esta vez.<\/P>
\n

Se despide decepcionado, pero confiado en que nuestra reuni\u00f3n s\u00f3lo se ha pospuesto y que el destino lo traer\u00e1n a usted y Michelle hasta puerta de entrada de nuestro hogar en un futuro no tan distante. \u00a1Ah, el queque de naranja estaba realmente delicioso!<\/P>

With all due respect, Mr. President, you could at least have answered my invitation for you and Mrs. Obama (or Michelle as most of us like to call her) to have tea with Mrs. Eneldo and me. We had our very best tea service cleaned and polished, we made waffles for the girls and Mrs. Eneldo even baked a cake (orange sponge) which is always quite delicious even if she, with good reason, usually leaves the cooking to others.<\/P>
\n

Our disappointment was double as we had promised the \u201cextended family\u201d (about 70 in all) they could camp out in the garden and watch the Tea Party through our living room windows. Our grandchildren were just longing to play with your absolutely delightful daughters.<\/P>
\n

I was told by a friend, someone \u201cwho knows people in high places at AmCham,\u201d that my having an Iranian nuclear powered generator in the garden may have put me on some Watch List. As we are still waiting on our first delivery of enriched uranium this really is not a threat. I had even gone so far as to hire 40 retired plainclothes detectives to take care of perimeter security. This, when combined with the aggressive instincts of our labrador, Picasso, would have kept you and your family safe from any lunatics, fanatics or local football hooligans.<\/P>
\n

But you never came!  Earl Grey tea made with freshly filtered water \u2013 wasted. Honey from my own bees \u2013 back in the jar. When we realized you would not be coming we had to explain, somewhat embarrassingly, to the neighbors that they could go back to their homes since the \u201ccrisis\u201d was averted.  I know, you are thinking what \u201ccrisis\u201d? Well, in order to ensure security for your visit I called in a gas leak warning and went house to house advising the neighbors to evacuate until it was safe to return home.<\/P>
\n

However, our biggest disappointment is that you made time to have breakfast with Mr. Sebasti\u00e1n Pi\u00f1era and Mrs. Cecilia Morel, when I know you would have preferred to eat bacon, eggs (easy over), southern sausage, tomato, grits and homemade sourdough bread with Mrs. E and myself without the need to talk politics. I didn\u2019t go to Harvard (well, I\u2019ve been but just to visit \u2013 got the T shirt!!) but we would have been happy just to listen to you tell stories about the family. Another opportunity missed!<\/P>
\n

We hope you will be successful in your bid for re-election next year. No guarantees, of course, as both Mr. Carter and Mr. George Bush Senior will tell you\u2026 However, thinking positively, we feel sure you will be coming back to Chile and Mrs. E and I would like to extend the invitation for tea (or breakfast if you prefer) now so there will be no excuses for not accepting. You most certainly do not lack for transport, but I would recommend a local taxi (try and pick one with good suspension and a driver who has lived in Santiago for a few years) because no one would believe you are out and about without 100 SS agents!! Local cab \u2013 safe as houses. Talking of which, we have quite a nice one and you will be very comfortable; a rec room with a big TV upstairs and no earthquake damage.<\/P>
\n

You would be able to see how real, middle class Chileans live and, if you enjoy the tea as much as I think you will, stick around and we can share a bottle of Merlot \u2013 that\u2019s an enjoyable red wine \u2013 while we shoot the breeze.<\/P>
\n

Looking forward to hearing back from you this time.<\/P>
\n

I remain disappointed, but confident that our meeting has only been postponed and that destiny will bring you and Michelle to our front door in the not too distant future. Gee, that orange sponge really was great!<\/P>
