He estado muy preocupado y por mucho tiempo sobre las crecientes necesidades energ\u00e9ticas de Chile y la manera en que ellas ser\u00e1n satisfechas. Hace apenas unas semanas el Presidente \u201csolicit\u00f3\u201d a una empresa no construir una central el\u00e9ctrica a carb\u00f3n en un \u00e1rea delicada en t\u00e9rminos ambientales, a\u00fan cuando el proyecto contaba con todas las aprobaciones necesarias. La empresa escuch\u00f3 al Presidente y calmadamente se retir\u00f3…<\/P>
\n

Pero \u00bfqu\u00e9 mensaje env\u00eda esto a los inversionistas? En especial a los inversionistas extranjeros. Y, \u00bfqu\u00e9 hace esto por las necesidades energ\u00e9ticas de m\u00e1s largo plazo de Chile? \u00bfSe mantendr\u00e1n alejados los inversionistas? \u00bfPag\u00f3 este \u00fanico proyecto un alto precio de modo que otros (como Hidroays\u00e9n y Alto de Maipo) puedan seguir adelante con un mayor respaldo del Gobierno?<\/P>

He recorrido Chile de Norte a Sur y no se puede negar para nada la extraordinaria belleza natural que tenemos el privilegio de \u201ctener a pr\u00e9stamo\u201d. Tambi\u00e9n estoy consciente de que una parte importante de la creciente demanda de energ\u00eda del pa\u00eds se debe a la expansi\u00f3n de la miner\u00eda y al crecimiento urbano. S\u00ed, necesitamos vender el cobre a US$ 3,50 la libra, pero \u00bfpor qu\u00e9 tengo que pagar los costos directos (mayores precios de la energ\u00eda) y los costos indirectos (la destrucci\u00f3n del medio ambiente)?<\/P>
\n

Bueno, no puedo hacer mucho respecto de las minas, en especial mientras esperamos el rescate de los 33 h\u00e9roes de la mina San Jos\u00e9. Sin embargo, quiz\u00e1s puedo hacer mi peque\u00f1o aporte para el medio ambiente y el consumo dom\u00e9stico. Tengo un proyecto muy pr\u00e1ctico que estoy poniendo en marcha y, si es seguido por otros, podr\u00eda ahorrarnos miles de millones.<\/P>
\n

\u00a1Genere su propia energ\u00eda! \u00a1Convi\u00e9rtase en independiente en materia energ\u00e9tica! He estado en contacto con Ir\u00e1n y actualmente estoy negociando una peque\u00f1a planta nuclear para mi hogar. Tengo todos los permisos y no he recibido una llamada del Presidente (el nuestro, no el de Ir\u00e1n)\u2026 a\u00fan. S\u00f3lo necesitar\u00e9 un 2% de lo que se genere y vender\u00e9 el excedente a mis vecinos al \u201ccosto\u201d. Energ\u00eda muy limpia. \u00bfLa seguridad? No es tema. Los iran\u00edes me garantizan que la planta es segura y tiene una garant\u00eda de seis meses.<\/P>

Mientras espero la llegada de la planta, hemos convertido nuestro hogar a la energ\u00eda generada por la bicicleta. Tenemos dos bicicletas de ejercicio que usamos por una hora en la ma\u00f1ana y una hora en la tarde. Mientras pedaleo y entrego energ\u00eda a un peque\u00f1o generador, la se\u00f1ora Eneldo tiene tiempo para darse una ducha, rasurarse y secarse el pelo… Luego ella se sube a la bici y mientras, yo me doy una ducha y lavo nuestra ropa al mismo tiempo. En la tarde, pedaleo y genero electricidad para el microondas, mientras que la se\u00f1ora E calienta alguna \u201ccomida preparada\u201d. Luego quemo algunos kilos mientras ella ve su reality show favorito con el televisor de pantalla plana enchufado al generador. Ahora somos autosuficiente, estamos extremadamente en forma y tenemos velas al lado de nuestras camas; muy rom\u00e1ntico…<\/P>
\n

Mi panel solar est\u00e1 funcionando; bueno no del todo… pero est\u00e1 \u201coperando\u201d desde el techo de mi garage y acumula energ\u00eda durante el d\u00eda (\u00a1bueno la mayor parte de los d\u00edas!) para luego cargar mi auto el\u00e9ctrico durante la noche, mientras yo estoy profundamente dormido. Tengo otro panel en la oficina con el fin de recargar el auto para as\u00ed poder llegar a casa. La velocidad m\u00e1xima es de 35km por hora lo que parece irritar a otros conductores en la calle, pero yo s\u00f3lo conduzco calmadamente sin herir a nadie.<\/P>
\n

Lo \u00faltimo que estoy haciendo es reciclar residuos; tales como el esti\u00e9rcol. Hemos persuadido a la mayor\u00eda de nuestros vecinos de redirigir su esti\u00e9rcol hacia nuestra piscina que ahora est\u00e1 cubierta y produce metano de manera directa para la calefacci\u00f3n de mi casa. No puedo decir que el sistema es inodoro a\u00fan, pero estamos trabajando en este peque\u00f1o problema…<\/P>
\n

Ahora, apenas puedo esperar para que el reactor nuclear llegue, pero -lamentablemente- esto ocupar\u00e1 el resto del jard\u00edn. El \u00faltimo problema es qu\u00e9 hacer con el Hummer de la se\u00f1ora E, que ocupa mucho espacio en el frente de la casa. Quiz\u00e1s podr\u00edamos convertirlo en la habitaci\u00f3n de la nana…<\/P>
\n

\u00a1Eso es!; problema resuelto. Somos productores independientes de energ\u00eda relativamente limpia (el metano a partir de esti\u00e9rcol a\u00fan no se ha perfeccionado) y pronto estaremos entregando energ\u00eda nuclear a\u00fan m\u00e1s limpia para todo el barrio. \u00bfBasura radioactiva? Tenemos una peque\u00f1a mina, muy profunda, en desuso e in\u00fatil…<\/P>

Sigo siendo un l\u00edder de la innovaci\u00f3n y la implementaci\u00f3n; \u00bfqu\u00e9 hay de usted?<\/P>

I have been worrying long and hard about Chile\u2019s growing energy needs and the manner in which they will be met. Just recently the President \u201crequested\u201d a company not to build a coal fired power station in an environmentally sensitive area \u2013 even though the project had all the necessary approvals. The company listened to the President and calmly walked away…<\/P>
\n

But what sort of a message is this sending to investors? Especially foreign investors. And what does this do for Chile\u2019s longer term energy needs?  Will investors stay away? Has this one project paid a heavy price so that others (like Hidroaysen and Alto de Maipo) can go ahead with greater government support?<\/P>
\n

I have travelled Chile from North to South and there is absolutely no denying the extraordinary natural beauty we are privileged to \u201chave on loan.\u201d I am also aware that a substantial part of the country\u2019s growing energy demand is due to mining expansion and urban growth. Yes, we need to sell copper at US$3.50 a pound, but why do I have to pay the direct costs (higher energy prices) and indirect costs (environmental destruction)?<\/P>
\n

Well, I can\u2019t do much about the mines, especially as we await the rescue of 33 heroes from the San Jos\u00e9 mine. However, perhaps I can do my little bit for the environment and domestic consumption. I have a very practical project which I am putting into action and, if followed by others, could save us billions.<\/P>
\n

Produce your own energy! Become energy independent! I have been in contact with Iran and I am currently negotiating a small Nuclear Plant for my home. I have all the permits and I have not received a call from the President (ours, not Iran\u2019s) \u2013 yet. I will only require 2% of the output and will be selling the excess to my neighbours at \u201ccost.\u201d Very clean energy. Safety? Not an issue. The Iranians assure me the plant is safe and comes with a six-month guarantee.<\/P>
\n

As I await the plant\u2019s arrival, we have converted our home to Bicycle power. We have two exercise bikes which we use for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. While I pedal and power a small generator, Mrs Eneldo has time to take a shower, shave and dry her hair… She then pops on the bike and while I have my shower and wash our clothes at the same time. In the evening, I peddle and provide power for the microwave while Mrs E heats up some \u201cready-to-eat meals.\u201d I then burn off some pounds while she watches her favorite reality show with the wide-screen TV plugged into the generator. We are now self-reliant, extremely fit and have candles by our beds; very romantic…<\/P>
\n

My solar panel is up and running; well not actually \u201crunning\u201d… but it is \u201coperating\u201d from above the garage roof and accumulates energy during the day (well most days!) and then charges my electric car at night while I am fast asleep. I have another panel at the office to recharge the car so I can get home. Maximum speed is 35km per hour which seems to irritate other drivers on the road, but I just drive calmly along harming no one.<\/P>
\n

The final thing we are doing is recycling waste; as in dung. We have persuaded most of our neighbors to redirect their dung to our swimming pool which is now covered and produces methane directly for home heating. I cannot say the system is odor free yet, but we are working on this minor problem…<\/P>
\n

Now, can\u2019t wait for the nuclear reactor to arrive but, sadly, this will take up the rest of the garden. The final problem is what to do with Mrs E\u2019s Hummer, which takes up a lot of space in front of the house. Perhaps we could convert it into a maid\u2019s bedroom…<\/P>
\n

So that\u2019s it; problem solved. We are independent, relatively clean energy producers (dung methane still not perfected) and soon to be providing even cleaner nuclear energy for the entire neighborhood. Radioactive waste? We own a small, very deep, disused, useless mine…<\/P>
