Autoridades del nuevo Gobierno participaron en la reuni\u00f3n, incluido el subsecretario del Trabajo, Marcelo Soto. Los representantes empresariales incluyeron a Charles Kimber, gerente de asuntos corporativos de Arauco, y Fernando Hurtado, socio de la firma de abogados Urenda, Rencoret, Orrego &amp; D\u00f6rr. Los trabajadores estuvieron representados por el presidente de la Uni\u00f3n Nacional de Trabajadores, Diego Olivares.<\/P><br \/>\n<P style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">El mercado reaccion\u00f3 al terremoto con \u201ccierto descontrol en el uso de la causal de fuerza mayor para desvincular a los trabajadores\u201d, sostuvo Soto, quien a\u00f1adi\u00f3 que este problema destaca la importancia de fortalecer el di\u00e1logo entre las empresas y sus trabajadores. Ello, junto con la modernizaci\u00f3n del mercado laboral chileno, ser\u00e1 el centro de atenci\u00f3n del nuevo Gobierno.<\/P><br \/>\n<P style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">Hurtado abord\u00f3 el tema desde una perspectiva legal. El Art\u00edculo 159 No. 6 del C\u00f3digo Laboral permite a las empresas despedir trabajadores sin derecho a indemnizaci\u00f3n en caso de un evento de \u2018fuerza mayor\u2019, pero tal evento debe generar \u201cuna imposibilidad total y permanente\u201d para que una empresa contin\u00fae funcionando con normalidad, manifest\u00f3.<\/P><!--:--><!--:en--><P style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\"><STRONG>AmCham\u2019s Labor Committee<\/STRONG> met in April to discuss the consequences of the earthquake for labor relations in Chile. Authorities from the new government participated including the under-secretary of labor affairs, Marcelo Soto. Business representatives included Charles Kimber, manager of corporate affairs for Arauco, and Fernando Hurtado, a partner at the law firm Urenda, Rencoret, Orrego &amp; D\u00f6rr. Workers were represented by the president of the National Workers Union, Diego Olivares.<\/P><br \/>\n<P style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">The market reacted to the earthquake \u201cwith a certain lack of control in the use of force majeure to fire workers,\u201d said Soto, adding this problem highlights the importance of strengthening the social dialogue between companies and their workers. This, along with modernizing the Chilean labor market, will be the focus of the new government, he said.<\/P><br \/>\n<P style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: justify\">Hurtado addressed the issue from a legal perspective.
