\n\u201cPuede que Ud. viva en tiempos interesantes\u201d, una frase que Robert F. Kennedy pronunci\u00f3 en su viaje a Sud\u00e1frica en 1966 y una experiencia que enfrentamos hoy en d\u00eda. No importa c\u00f3mo se describa el complejo, interconectado y econ\u00f3micamente desafiante mundo es en el que vivimos, ciertamente debe ser considerado interesante.<\/p>\n
Tiempos interesantes tambi\u00e9n son tiempos desafiantes; desafiantes porque est\u00e1n llenos de incertidumbre, desafiantes porque est\u00e1n llenos de riesgo y desafiantes porque est\u00e1n llenos de oportunidades.<\/p>\n
Por un lado, el mundo enfrenta una de las crisis econ\u00f3micas m\u00e1s graves del \u00faltimo tiempo y, por otra, estamos llenos de expectativas debido a un joven y energ\u00e9tico nuevo l\u00edder de Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, quien promete esperanza con una pasi\u00f3n y convicci\u00f3n no observadas en Estados Unidos desde los d\u00edas de los j\u00f3venes Kennedy en la d\u00e9cada de los 60.<\/p>\n
Entonces, \u00bfqu\u00e9 vamos a hacer?<\/p>\n
Muchos est\u00e1n esperando definiciones y soluciones de manos del nuevo presidente de Estados Unidos; sin embargo, lo que es emocionante sobre estos tiempos interesantes es la oportunidad de buscar soluciones de manera proactiva y de definir el futuro del mundo en que vivimos.<\/p>\n
En la edici\u00f3n de este mes entregamos un informe sobre el paquete de est\u00edmulo econ\u00f3mico de Chile, que ha sido considerado a nivel mundial como un excelente ejemplo de preparaci\u00f3n y de medidas para actuar en tiempos interesantes, un programa que ha sido elogiado tanto en Chile como en el extranjero. <\/p>\n
Cubrimos la reuni\u00f3n de la Asociaci\u00f3n de C\u00e1maras Americanas de Comercio en Am\u00e9rica Latina (AACCLA) donde se desarroll\u00f3 un plan de trabajo concreto para confrontar, entre otros desaf\u00edos, el fantasma del aislamiento en ciernes , una de las mayores amenazas para la recuperaci\u00f3n mundial. Este programa de trabajo dar\u00e1 su respaldo a Caminos a la Prosperidad en las Am\u00e9ricas, una importante iniciativa a trav\u00e9s de la cual los pa\u00edses del hemisferio con Tratados de Libre Comercio con Estados Unidos est\u00e1n tratando de asegurar que los beneficios del comercio se maximicen a lo largo de la regi\u00f3n y beneficien a sus pueblos. <\/p>\n
En nuestra secci\u00f3n de Negocios, abordamos los emocionantes nuevos mercados que una emergente empresa chilena ha encontrado al exportar sabores y fragancias de Chile y que, en el proceso, ha familiarizado al mundo con la rica identidad cultural de Chile.<\/p>\n
Y de manera muy entusiasta, reporteamos la llegada de Wal-Mart al mercado chileno, ofreciendo grandes oportunidades y desaf\u00edos para consumidores y competidores, en una inversi\u00f3n que muestra confianza en el pa\u00eds, sus l\u00edderes empresariales y su futuro.<\/p>\n
Todas estas iniciativas son excelentes ejemplos de emocionantes estrategias que pueden emplearse para convertir los desaf\u00edos de tiempos interesantes en bienestar.<\/p>\n
AmCham Chile tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 comprometida para contribuir de manera proactiva al futuro. Bajo el liderazgo del nuevo presidente de la C\u00e1mara hemos trabajado diligentemente en nuestra estrategia para el 2009. Estamos comprometidos con la promoci\u00f3n del comercio libre y justo, la prevenci\u00f3n del aislamiento, la profundizaci\u00f3n de los beneficios del intercambio comercial a trav\u00e9s de todos los sectores de la econom\u00eda y la comunicaci\u00f3n en\u00e9rgica de los beneficios que ha tra\u00eddo el Tratado de Libre Comercio a Estados Unidos y Chile as\u00ed como tambi\u00e9n a sus pueblos. <\/p>\n
Respaldaremos de manera activa las pr\u00e1cticas de negocios sustentables y respetuosas con el medio ambiente, as\u00ed como tambi\u00e9n los programas s\u00f3lidos de responsabilidad social. Destacaremos los beneficios que trae consigo el respeto de la propiedad intelectual y el desarrollo de las capacidades comunicacionales en idioma ingl\u00e9s (vea la invitaci\u00f3n a participar en el Gran Debate Corporativo). Daremos nuestro apoyo a las iniciativas chilenas para desarrollar y promover la imagen pa\u00eds de Chile. Participaremos de manera activa en la iniciativa Caminos a la Prosperidad en las Am\u00e9ricas. Finalmente, asumiremos un rol de liderazgo en el Foro de Competitividad de las Am\u00e9ricas, que se celebrar\u00e1 en septiembre en Santiago. <\/p>\n
El escenario est\u00e1 dispuesto. AmCham est\u00e1 comprometida con un s\u00f3lido plan de acci\u00f3n que ayudar\u00e1 a convertir tiempos interesantes en tiempos pr\u00f3speros. <\/p>\n
Esperamos con mucho entusiasmo la reuni\u00f3n en abril de l\u00edderes del hemisferio en Trinidad y Tobago para la Cumbre de las Am\u00e9ricas. Alentamos a los l\u00edderes de la regi\u00f3n a asistir a la reuni\u00f3n, preparar ideas y recomendaciones para el futuro de manera que pueda establecerse una din\u00e1mica agenda compartida para la regi\u00f3n en estos, los m\u00e1s interesantes de los tiempos.

For no matter how the complex, interconnected and economically-challenged world we live in is characterized, it must surely be considered interesting.<\/p>\n
Interesting times are also challenging times – challenging because they are full of uncertainty, challenging because they are full of risk, and challenging because they are full of opportunity.<\/p>\n
On the one hand, the world faces one of the most severe economic downturns in a lifetime and, on the other, we are filled with expectation because of a young and energetic new leader of the United States, Barack Obama, who promises hope with a passion and conviction not seen in the United States since the days of the young Kennedys in the 1960s.<\/p>\n
So what are we to do?<\/p>\n
Many are awaiting definitions and solutions from the new U.S. president; however, what is exciting about these interesting times is the opportunity to proactively seek solutions and define the future of the world we will live in.<\/p>\n
This month we report on the Chilean economic stimulus package which has been viewed globally as an excellent example of preparing for and acting in interesting times – a program which has been applauded in Chile and internationally. <\/p>\n
We cover the meeting of the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA) where a concrete plan of work has been developed to confront, among other challenges, the specter of looming isolationism, one of the greatest threats to global economic recovery. This program of work will support Pathways to Prosperity, an important initiative through which the countries in the hemisphere with Free Trade Agreements with the United States are seeking to ensure that the benefits of trade are maximized across the region and to the benefit of its people. <\/p>\n
In our trade testimonial, we report on the exciting new markets which a Chilean start-up company has found in exporting the flavors and fragrances of Chile and, in the process, making the world familiar with Chile\u2019s rich cultural identity.<\/p>\n
And in a very enthusiastic way, we report on the arrival of Wal-Mart to the Chilean market, offering great opportunities and challenges for consumers and competitors – an investment that shows confidence in the country, its business leaders and its future.<\/p>\n
All of these initiatives are excellent examples of exciting strategies which can be employed to turn the challenges of interesting times into wellbeing.<\/p>\n
AmCham Chile too is committed to proactively contributing to the future. Under the leadership of the Chamber\u2019s new president we have worked diligently on our 2009 strategy. We are committed to promoting free and fair trade, to preventing isolationism, to deepening the benefits of free trade across all sectors of the economy, and to communicating energetically the benefits which the FTA has brought to the United States and Chile and their peoples. <\/p>\n
We will actively support sustainable and environmentally-friendly business practices, as well as strong social responsibility programs. We will highlight the benefits of respect for intellectual property and for development of English language skills (see invitation to participate in The Great Corporate Debate). We will support Chilean efforts to develop and to promote Chile\u2019s country image. We will actively participate in the Pathways to Prosperity initiative. Finally, we will take a leadership role in September\u2019s Americas Competitiveness Forum to be held in Santiago. <\/p>\n
The stage has been set. AmCham is committed to a strong plan of action which will help to turn interesting times into prosperous times. We look forward to the meeting in April of hemispheric leaders in Trinidad and Tobago for the Summit of the Americas.
