Parece que vivimos en tiempos m\u00e1s bien aterradores. Al momento de escribir esta columna, la C\u00e1mara de Representantes de Estados Unidos reci\u00e9n rechazaba el plan de US$ 700.000 millones presentado por el presidente para rescatar la econom\u00eda estadounidense y, en particular, sus principales instituciones financieras. Aparte del tema hasta cierto punto menor de otra p\u00e9rdida por US$ 3.500.000.000 en el valor de las acciones estadounidenses, esto -por supuesto- tiene ramificaciones mundiales.<\/P>

Muchas de ellas se basan en la teor\u00eda del domin\u00f3, porque en una econom\u00eda global muy pocos mercados est\u00e1n inmunes a una recesi\u00f3n en Estados Unidos o, a\u00fan peor, a su colapso. M\u00e1s a\u00fan, dado que la mayor parte de la deuda estadounidense es extranjera, esos pa\u00edses y Gobiernos no quieren perder su propio dinero. Entonces, \u00bfcolapsar\u00e1 la econom\u00eda estadounidense y el modelo del mercado capitalista, que ha conducido al crecimiento durante m\u00e1s de dos d\u00e9cadas?<\/P>

\u00a1De ninguna manera! Pero sufrir\u00e1 algunos cambios extraordinarios en especial en lo que respecta a la fiscalizaci\u00f3n y la eliminaci\u00f3n de ciertas argucias financieras, usualmente llamadas \u201cinstrumentos\u201d que, \u00a1enfrent\u00e9moslo!, ninguno de nosotros entiende realmente; \u00a1ni siquiera aquellos que lidian con ellos!<\/P>

Fidel Castro y Hugo Ch\u00e1vez, entre muchos otros, deben estarmuri\u00e9ndose<\/EM> de la risa. Gr\u00e1veselo, ninguno de ellos puede alimentar o sostener a su propia gente apropiadamente, pero est\u00e1n muy contentos con instruir al resto del mundo sobre c\u00f3mo administrar sus pa\u00edses y econom\u00edas. Y \u00bfcu\u00e1ntas medallas ganaron Cuba y Venezuela en los recientes Juegos Ol\u00edmpicos? \u00a1No tantas, cari\u00f1o! La mayor\u00eda de los enemigos de Estados Unidos -y, cr\u00e9alo o no, Osama bin Laden no es el \u00fanico, aunque tiende a hacer bastante ruido de cuando en cuando- estar\u00e1n muy contentos con esta debacle.<\/P> Los Gobiernos de pa\u00edses en una situaci\u00f3n desesperada, tales como Zimbabue, Angola, Burundi, Rep\u00fablica Central de \u00c1frica, Rep\u00fablica Democr\u00e1tica del Congo, Eritrea, Etiop\u00eda, Myanmar, N\u00edger y Ruanda, estar\u00e1n muy emocionados pensando en la Pobreza de Estados Unidos y en que los dejen seguir con su propia miseria (o no) con mucho menos cr\u00edticas de los pa\u00edses civilizados y desarrollados, y sin ning\u00fan visitante del Departamento de Estado cantando \u201cHagan como nosotros\u201d.<\/P> La iron\u00eda aqu\u00ed es que, aparentemente, a\u00fan cuando el paquete de rescate fue rechazado, los contribuyentes de Estados Unidos terminar\u00e1n pagando la crisis, \u00a1siempre lo hacemos! Muchos dir\u00e1n, y han dicho, que los peces gordos de Wall Street debieran limpiar sus propios desechos. Quienes crearon el l\u00edo, debieran pagar por \u00e9l. Concuerdo con este sentimiento.<\/P> S\u00f3lo hay un problema. Estos peces gordos engordaron con nuestro dinero y ahora perdieron nuestro dinero. Inevitablemente estos astutos peces tienen su propio dinero escondido en innumerables cuentas corrientes en el extranjero, a buen resguardo del escrutinio federal. Parecer\u00e1n deprimidos y humildes frente a las c\u00e1maras, pero sus estilos de vida no cambiar\u00e1n, mientras que el resto de nosotros tendremos que cancelar la Navidad, conseguir una tercera hipoteca sobre nuestro segundo hogar (siempre y cuando haya un banco capaz de otorgar pr\u00e9stamos), vender a uno de nuestros hijos (o nietos\u2026) y luego tomar un empleo en el turno de noche de Walmart. \u00a1Harto deprimente!<\/P> De modo que, \u00bfa d\u00f3nde se fue<\/STRONG> todo el dinero? En t\u00e9rminos generales, no hay dinero real<\/STRONG>, s\u00f3lo balances y promesas de pagar tras el t\u00e9rmino de cualquiera sea la transacci\u00f3n en desarrollo.<\/EM><\/P> Tenga cuidado con los pagar\u00e9s y c\u00fabrase con efectivo. Simplemente amo la moneda estadounidense (el efectivo), porque me da tanta confianza. A un lado de un \u201cbillete\u201d (?!) dice: Este documento es moneda de curso legal para toda deuda, p\u00fablica y privada;<\/EM> y luego del otro lado, escrito en negrillas bien marcadas: EN DIOS CONFIAMOS.<\/EM> <\/STRONG><\/P> S\u00f3lo espero que Dios tenga tiempo para reflexionar sobre sus compromisos con el Pueblo Estadounidense\u2026<\/P> Sigo durmiendo en un colch\u00f3n con un nuevo cierre relleno de monedas de curso legal,<\/P> Santiago Eneldo<\/STRONG><\/P> (Aportes caritativos a santiagoeneldo@yahoo.com)<\/EM><\/STRONG><\/P> Many of these are domino-theory based because in a global economy very few markets are immune from a U.S. recession or, worse, collapse. Further, as most U.S. debt is foreign-owned, those countries and governments do not want to lose their own money. So, will the U.S. economy and the capitalist market model, which has driven growth for over two centuries, collapse? <\/p>\n No way! But it will suffer some extraordinary changes especially in oversight and the elimination of certain financial trickery – usually called \u201cinstruments\u201d which, let\u2019s face it, none of us really understand; not even those dealing in them!<\/p>\n Fidel Castro and Hugo Ch\u00e1vez, among many others, must be dying<\/I> with laughter. Mark you, neither can actually feed or house their own people properly but are very happy to instruct the rest of the world on how to run their countries and economies. And how many medals did Cuba and Venezuela win at the recent Olympic Games? Not that many, baby! Most of the United States\u2019 enemies – and, believe it or not, Osama bin Laden is not the only one, although he does tend to make quite a lot of noise from time to time – will be very content with this meltdown. <\/p>\n Governments of countries in dire straits, such as Zimbabwe, Angola, Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Niger and Rwanda, will be very excited at the thought of American Poverty and being left to get on with their own rotten ways (or not) with much less criticism from the civilized, developed countries and no State Department visitors singing \u201cDo it Our Way\u201d.<\/p>\n The irony here is that, apparently, even though the rescue package was voted down, the U.S. Tax Payer will still end up paying for the crisis – we always do! Many would say, and have done so, that the fat cats of Wall Street should clean up their own droppings. Those who created the mess should pay for it. I agree with this sentiment. <\/p>\n There is just one problem. These fat cats got fat on our money and have now lost our money. Inevitably these cunning cats have their own money stashed in unnumbered, off-shore cash accounts – safe from federal scrutiny. They will look bleak and humble in front of the cameras but their lifestyles will be unchanged while the rest of us have to cancel Christmas, take out a third mortgage on the second home (providing there is a bank capable of lending), sell one of the children (or grandchildren\u2026) and then take on a nightshift job at Walmart. Pretty bleak!<\/p>\n So, where has<\/b> all the money gone? Generally speaking, there is no actual money<\/b>, just Balance Sheets and promises to pay upon completion of whatever transaction is in play.<\/I><\/p>\n Beware of promissory notes and take cover in cash. I just love the U.S. currency (cash) because it gives me so much confidence.
