En las d\u00e9cadas de los \u201880 y \u201890, las personas con capacidades diferentes, minor\u00edas sexuales o adultos mayores eran abordados en campa\u00f1as sociales, en algunas iniciativas estatales y en medios de prensa a trav\u00e9s de reportajes sobre la importancia de la integraci\u00f3n, los que a su vez inclu\u00edan ejemplos de buenas pr\u00e1cticas de pa\u00edses como Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n<p>Con el correr de los a\u00f1os, tanto los conceptos de inclusi\u00f3n como de diversidad en la sociedad han ido adquiriendo mayor relevancia, en t\u00e9rminos de su aporte a la calidad de vida de las personas y al desarrollo del pa\u00eds. El Estado ha trabajado en la implementaci\u00f3n de pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas que son consideradas como necesarias y claves para una sociedad moderna.<\/p>\n<p>Dicho inter\u00e9s tambi\u00e9n ha sido abordado por el sector privado mediante el desarrollo de pol\u00edticas dirigidas a promover una vida productiva y en igualdad de condiciones, independientemente de la edad, g\u00e9nero o preferencia sexual de sus colaboradores.<\/p>\n<p>En el pa\u00eds se han dado importantes avances, pero a\u00fan tenemos mucho camino por recorrer si, por ejemplo, revisamos las cifras de la Organizaci\u00f3n para la Cooperaci\u00f3n y el Desarrollo Econ\u00f3micos (OCDE), las cuales muestran que en Chile las mujeres tienen 23% menos posibilidades de trabajar que los hombres. Sin embargo, la Encuesta de Caracterizaci\u00f3n Socioecon\u00f3mica Nacional (Casen) 2015 sobre Trabajo, evidenci\u00f3 un avance en las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas. En 1990, la tasa de participaci\u00f3n laboral por sexo era 73,6% para los hombres y 32,5% para las mujeres; la que evolucion\u00f3 a 71% y 47,4%, respectivamente, disminuyendo la brecha de g\u00e9nero. En tanto, la tasa de ocupaci\u00f3n por sexo transit\u00f3 de 67,9% los hombres y 29,4% las mujeres en 1990; a 66,2% y 43,4%, respectivamente.<\/p>\n<p>El desaf\u00edo de la inclusi\u00f3n del pa\u00eds es de gran inter\u00e9s para la C\u00e1mara Chileno Norteamericana de Comercio, AmCham Chile, por lo cual hemos promovido la discusi\u00f3n en torno a estas tem\u00e1ticas, en particular, a trav\u00e9s del Comit\u00e9 de Capital Humano, el cual est\u00e1 integrado tanto por empresas como por organizaciones sociales. Para ello, hemos organizado mesas redondas para dar a conocer las buenas pr\u00e1cticas de socios de la C\u00e1mara en diversos sectores productivos, adem\u00e1s de instancias de capacitaci\u00f3n. En todos estos encuentros se ha profundizado en los procesos de integraci\u00f3n que incluyen el trabajo con minor\u00edas sexuales y adultos mayores. El consenso entre los participantes a estos encuentros ha sido que la diversidad e inclusi\u00f3n no deben traducirse en acciones filantr\u00f3picas aisladas, sino en la incorporaci\u00f3n a la organizaci\u00f3n de personas que representen distintos grupos y diversos puntos de vista, lo cual aporta positivamente a la productividad de las empresas.<\/p>\n<p>Chile tiene a\u00fan mucho que avanzar en esta materia, para lo cual es esencial conocer y adoptar buenas pr\u00e1cticas de pa\u00edses como Estados Unidos, donde, por ejemplo, la diversidad sexual es considerada como un aporte al desarrollo de las empresas. En 2016, el \u00cdndice de Igualdad Corporativa de Human Rights Campaign (HRC) destac\u00f3 a nivel mundial a compa\u00f1\u00edas norteamericanas como Twitter, Uber, Apple y UPS por sus pol\u00edticas, pr\u00e1cticas y c\u00f3digos de conducta de no discriminaci\u00f3n hacia empleados y clientes que se identifican como minor\u00edas sexuales. El pa\u00eds est\u00e1 avanzando en el camino hacia una sociedad m\u00e1s inclusiva y diversa, con cambios concretos, pero todav\u00eda con muchos desaf\u00edos por delante que, sin duda, definir\u00e1n al Chile que queremos construir y que hoy es parte de un mundo cada vez m\u00e1s globalizado en el cual el di\u00e1logo, la tolerancia y el bienestar de todos es una prioridad.[:en]<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-154112 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/amchamchile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/954388_orig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"644\" height=\"300\" \/><br \/>\nChilean society has evolved in recent decades, becoming more receptive to the ideals of diversity and inclusion. Beginning in the 1980s and 1990s, people with different abilities, those from sexual minorities and older persons were the subject of a range of distinct social campaigns, State-run initiatives and press and media reports outlining the importance of integration. Some of these approaches included examples of best practice from countries such as the United States.<\/p>\n<p>As time has passed, the concepts of inclusion and diversity have become increasingly relevant to Chilean society in terms of the support they lend not only to people\u2019s quality of life, but also to overall national development. Consequently, the State has implemented a series of public policies in this area, which is generally considered to be one of the essential components of a modern society.<\/p>\n<p>This evolving trend has also been replicated in the private sector through policies designed to promote a productive and equitable life, regardless of the age, gender or sexual orientation of workers.<\/p>\n<p>Although significant progress has been made in the country, there is still a long road ahead in several aspects. For example, figures from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development show that in Chile, women are 23% less likely to be in paid work than men. However, the 2015 Encuesta de Caracterizaci\u00f3n Socioecon\u00f3mica Nacional (National Socio-economic Characterization Survey), or Casen, highlighted a degree of progress in this area over recent decades. In 1990, the labor force participation rates were 73.6% for men and 32.5% for women. Over the subsequent 25-year period, this had evolved to 71% and 47.4%, respectively, thereby demonstrating a gradual bridging of the gender gap. Similarly, employment rates have progressed in a similar direction, from 67.9% of men and 29.4% of women in 1990, to 66.2% and 43.4%, respectively, by 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Confronting the challenge of inclusion in the country is of considerable interest to the Chilean American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Chile). That is why discussion on these topics has been promoted across the Chamber, particularly via the Human Capital Committee, which is constituted by both private sector companies and social organizations. As a result, we have organized numerous roundtable meetings for our members, who herald from a diverse variety of sectors, in order to provide them with a space in which to openly discuss best practice in this area as well as to engage in related training opportunities. These encounters have looked in detail at a wide range of integration processes, including those related to working with sexual minorities and older persons. Consensus among roundtable participants has been that diversity and inclusion should not simply be manifested through isolated philanthropic actions; rather, they should lead enterprises to incorporate people from different groups and with distinct points of view into and across their organizations. In turn, this will have a positive impact on company productivity.<br \/>\nMany obstacles lie ahead and if the country is to fully embrace diversity and inclusion, it must understand and adopt best practices from countries such as the United States, where, for example, sexual diversity is regarded as a contributing factor to company development. To demonstrate this, the Corporate Equality Index produced by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation is relevant. The Index is the United States\u2019 national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees. As such, findings from the 2016 edition ranked a number of companies including Twitter, Uber, Apple and UPS as global leaders in terms of their policies, practices and codes of conduct related to the non-discrimination of employees who identify themselves as sexual minorities.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, Chile is making progress towards becoming a more inclusive and diverse society and concrete changes are taking place.
