Una etiqueta de comercio justo indica que un producto se elaboró de acuerdo a ciertos estándares éticos. Significa, por ejemplo, que el proveedor recibió un precio que al menos cubre sus costos de producción, que se le pagó a tiempo y que tiene un compromiso a largo plazo con sus compradores, que no emplea mano de obra infantil o discrimina sobre la base de género, edad o raza y que tiene un comportamiento amigable con el medio ambiente. Long established in Europe, the fair trade movement is also gaining momentum in the United States, but what does it mean for Chilean exporters? A fair trade label indicates that a product has been made according to certain ethical standards. It means, for example, that the supplier has received a price that at least covers its production costs, that it has been paid on time and has a long-term commitment from its buyers and that it does not use child labor or discriminate on grounds of gender, age or race and is environmentally friendly.
