Exceptionally sensitive to the performance of the economy as a whole, the soft drinks sector is once again growing strongly but, as prosperity increases, tastes are changing, posing new challenges for the industry. With the economy booming, Chileans once again feel they have money in their pockets - and they are spending some of it on soft drinks. The sector’s sales increased by 6.1% in the first nine months of this year, according to ANBER, the association of soft drinks producers. That was its fastest year-on-year growth since the mid-1990s and, with summer on the way, there is the promise of more strong growth to come. Good news, certainly, for the large beverage companies that dominate the sector, which reports annual sales in excess of US$1 billion. But customers´ changing tastes are keeping the giants on their toes and providing new opportunities for small producers.
</oembed>
